Overview
This book is rooted in an abiding hope that congregations are among the few places where people can work together for positive human change. This book addresses that need, with a selection of essays by respected Anglicans, including Frederick Borsch, Michael Battle, and Steven Charleston. Also included are practical suggestions on what parishes can do to support the vision of an anti-racist church, as well as a leader guide useful for parish programs.

Publishers Description

As neighborhoods, cities, and churches become gathering places for people from an astonishing variety of cultures, traditions, races, and ethnicities, racism us a profoundly spiritual concern and it's more important than ever for Christians to see the face of God in one another. This book takes a look at just what that means and how to help make it happen.

Five excellent essays on anti-racism  Jul 29, 2007
There are five authors of essays in this book: "A Dangerous Book the Bible" by Frederick Houk Borsch, "Baptism: Liberating Sacrament of Identity and Justice" by Fredrica Harris Thompsett, "Eucharistic Reconciliation" by Michael Battle, "Race and Reconciliation: Writing a New Ending to an Old Story" by Bishop Steven Charleston (Choctaw), and Racism and Anti-Racism in Congregations: Building Multiracial Communities" by the editor, Sheryl A. Kujawa-Holbrook. All of these relatively brief essays reexamine living out ministry as authentic anti-racism work. Thompsett's essay on baptism is especially illuminating in examining the Episcopal Church's understanding of its baptismal covenant and the inclusivity of the sacrament. The notes are extensive and there is a wonderful list of resources on anti-racism work at the end of the book. The Rev. Jayne Oasin, Social Justice Officer for the Episcopal Church, adds a succinct and prophetic introduction. This is higly recommended to any individual who seriously desires to undertake the work of anti-racism.
