Item Description...
It is June 2004 and life is a mixed bag for Frank Casey, a corporate lawyer and legal aid volunteer. He regrets the mistakes he made in his marriage, misses his ex-wife, and sees no possibility of advancement within a corporate legal department that is run like a feudal kingdom. But, on the up side, he enjoys his many friends, and is on the cusp of a romantic relationship with a beautiful and brilliant lawyer colleague. Election Day 2004 approaches and Casey, an opponent of the Iraq war, becomes increasingly concerned about the Catholic Bishops and Protestant Religious Right steering votes to President Bush because of his opposition to Roe versus Wade, embryonic stem cell research, and same-sex marriage. To counter them, Casey establishes a web site that uses religious arguments to try to dissuade Christian voters from applying a pro-life and family values litmus test that would eliminate John Kerry from consideration. He is joined in the endeavor by: Rita Alvarez, a lesbian legal aid lawyer; Rita's partner Robbie Beck, a public relations and advertising wiz; Howard King, a black computer nerd; and Sister Karen Holm, a young nun toward whom Casey feels a troublesome attraction that he considers taboo. As a result of Beck's skill and grit, the web site generates theological, legal, and political controversy that impacts the presidential campaign and turns Casey's world upside down, shattering his career, religious life, and relationship with the woman he loves. In accordance with the author's instructions, the publisher will send the author's portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book to United States Fund for UNICEF and Legal Services of New Jersey in equal shares.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Finnegan does the impossible  May 20, 2008
Bill Finnegan has taken what is perhaps the driest material imaginable and made it not only understandable but enjoyable. The ins and outs of Canon law are normally not the fare of a good "beach read", but Finnegan has written a lively and compelling novel reflecting the conflict experienced by the contemporary Roman Catholic believer when faced with the issue of abortion His ability to weave into his tale, citations of material from so many diverse sources and yet not make the reader feel that he or she is reading a dry academic text is remarkable. Perhaps he'll try his hand at the ordination of women as Priests next.
Christopher Buckley has new competition  May 20, 2008
Bill Finnegan has written an informative, funny, and even thrilling little piece here. If you like Christopher Buckley's books--and you should, then this is up your alley. If you want to know what is wrong with this world, and want some good information to help set it right, then this is up your alley. When the FBI and the Bishop get involved, hold on for a good ride. Saving Frank Casey
Whom Do You Follow?  May 14, 2008
Bill Finnegan examines this question in his novel about Frank Casey, a man of conscience, who finds that he is in conflict within certain doctrines of the Catholic Church. Bill uses his experience as a lawyer to lay out a carefully planned case, arguing both sides at the same time through the use of his artfully drawn characters. I found it thought-provoking, and hard to put down. A good read!!
WILL DRAW YOU IN  Apr 9, 2008
This novel drew me right into the story in the first scene. Many novels start slowly. This one begins by inviting you to step inside a decent character. But this novel isn't just entertainment. It raises many tough issues, issues some will find controversial. But isn't that what a great novel does?
