In Satan and His Kingdom, McCallum clarifies what is true and what is false about Satan, demons, and demonic control--both historically and today. --from publisher description

Publishers Description
This highly readable--and useful--examination of Satan and spiritual warfare was written out of necessity. In recent years, pastor and teacher Dennis McCallum found himself fielding more and more questions about Satan. He wanted to recommend a book on the subject, but those he found either reflected extreme beliefs, contained little biblical instruction, used fear tactics, or were poorly written.
In Satan and His Kingdom, McCallum clarifies what is true and what is false about Satan, demons, and demonic control--both historically and today. He shows readers how to effectively battle the enemy individually and corporately, all the while keeping their focus on Christ, not Satan. A reliable resource for pastors, lay leaders, and any Christian wanting to know more about evil in the world.

More About McCallum Dennis

Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! During Dennis McCallum's first year in college he began taking his friends to home Bible studies he and friends had formed. As the group developed they also began a publishing enterprise. When their group grew to include several high school and adult home groups in the central Ohio area, Dennis realized his need to get more training He completed his seminary training at Ashland Theological Seminary and returned to continue developing the group in Columbus, Ohio.

Dennis and his colleagues formed a new ministry group in 1994 called "The Crossroads Project," to teach apologetics to the church at large. Their book, The Death of Truth (Bethany House) addresses the subject of postmodernism, which they call the guiding spirit of our times. They show that American society has forsaken truth, that reason and rationality are viewed as cultural biases, and that truth--especially God's truth--doesn't exist. Dennis McCallum, with others from Xenos also presents a Postmodern Challenge Conference at universities throughout the country

Dennis, his wife and children are all involved in activities and ministries in Xenos. They make their home in Ohio.

Great Information  May 2, 2010
This book was informative as well as instructive. If you would like insight into the spiritual warfare being waged outside your front door buy this book and enjoy the teachings of Mr. McCallum. This information is not something that is addressed in your church. Especially to this degree.
comprehensive and practical  Dec 6, 2009
McCallum has provided Christians with a much needed resource. A very thorough and practical approach to understanding satan and his workings. Much appreciated is the consistent encouragement for the Christian to have a working knowledge of and respect for the intelligence and craftiness of satan, while keeping his primary focus on Christ, relating to Him through grace, and living in confidence in His goodness and power.
Satan and His Kingdom  Oct 24, 2009
As I do not typically read books on theology I had a very hard time picking this one up. After reading it I think I understand what may have been preventing me.

In his book "Satan and His Kingdom," Dennis McCallum takes a very in-depth look at what the Bible truly says about Satan and how it relates to our everyday lives. Though Satan is the epitome of evil, our perception of him is very skewed. McCallum goes to great lengths to show how Satan's primary tactic is that of a deceiver and though this idea isn't as scary as the exploding heads we've seen in movies, we should be just as frightened.

Ever since his fall from glory, Satan's primary goal has been to destroy humans, and though he is very powerful, there have been some limits placed on his power. Obviously he does not have to power to simply kill any human at any time or else he would have obliterated the entire earth already. On the other hand, he does have the power to whisper lies, which can cause one human to kill another and thus fulfill his goals. Satan does not have the power to read our minds (even through the psychic network), but because we are sinful beings, he is very well aware of what we will likely do and can make it seem as if he can.

Though I took a lot from the book, there were a couple of very insightful nuggets that really stuck out to me. In the chapter on countering Satan's moves, the author writes,

"Many Christians seriously underestimate the power of God's Word. If they didn't, they would learn more about it. They'd spend more time reading and meditating on it. Actions speak louder than words, and the actions of many Christians clearly suggest that they have never understood how powerful the Word of God is."

He goes on to highlight an illustration from a book by Chuck Smith. In short, if someone were to attack you on a dark street and start wrestling with you and then pull a knife, your entire focus of the fight would shift to that knife and trying to knock it out of the your attacker's hand.

As Christians we are constantly at battle with Satan and the Bible is our primary weapon. It's our knife if you will. Satan's major focus is knocking it out of our hands and thus preventing us from knowing and loving Jesus on an ever-increasing basis. Be it TV, the Internet, money, our job, school activities or even church activities (yes he is that sneaky) Satan has done a good job at keeping us from our Bibles and of growing our faith by growing closer to our Creator.

Could it have been Satan or a demon that personally kept me from reading this book for so long? It's possible, but I have a feeling it was nothing more than my sinful and lazy nature that is the culprit, and therein lies the problem. Satan has done such a good job throughout the years that he's got us doing his job for him. I for one would like to change this behavior.
Must read dispels the romance and mythology surrounding Satan  Oct 17, 2009
Satan and His Kingdom by Dennis McCallum is a hard-hitting look at the prince of this world. McCallum sticks strictly to Scripture to explain just who Satan aka the devil aka the accuser, etc, etc is. Lucifer is a title not actually appropriate for him as it is from a misinterpreted piece of the book of Isaiah. By breaking down every biblical reference to Satan, he delves deeply into exactly what his role is and what his actual abilities are. He shatters some illusions (sorry folks, but there's no pointy tail or pitchfork), but really tries to keep the focus on the damage Satan inflicts by allowing people of the Western world to think that he is just a myth. While McCallum does try to keep his focus on Scripture, I think that by ignoring Satan's portrayal in historical literature and pop culture, the book isn't as interesting as it could be. If he had chosen to refute each error point by point, it would make for a more enjoyable read. The book's ending is a bit of a disappointment, it doesn't conclude so much as just fizzle out with some unnecessary appendices. It's still a must read to dispel the illusions that have grown up around the devil.
A very down-to-earth look at Satan and Demons  Oct 11, 2009
While reading this book I increasingly became aware of the role Satan has been playing in my life: the lies he tells me that I buy into, the discouraging thoughts I have when he proposes that I ought to be prideful and think of myself, and the worries I have at those times he has convinced me to not trust God.

This book revealed this and so much more to me! This book will prepare you for a life lived for God. It will prepare you for the war between God and Satan, Angels and Demons, people and sin, truth and lies. Praise God for this book, a focused study on Satan and how he matters to you.
