Reviews - What do our customers think?
Great Historical Fiction from a Mennonite Viewpoint  Mar 23, 2007
Sarah of the Border Wars is based on real people and real events along the Missouri-Kansas border during the Civil War. It also gives an authentic look at a Mennonite family and their traditions of pacifism and plain living.
Solomon is forced to join the Union army against his beliefs while Sarah is left to manage the farm with the help of a hired hand. During Solomon's absence, Sarah must endure the death of a child and ravages by both the Jayhawkers and the Bushwhackers.
After the war, Sarah and Solomon settle in an area closer to people of their own Mennonite beliefs. However, with changing times, they must also deal with changing religious issues such as, just how "plain" is plain? And what about the new-fangled plows or automobiles?
Through her years of family responsibilities, then widowhood and old age, Sarah is shown as a person strong in body, spirit, and faith.
I found the book to be very interesting and enlightening.
