Item Description...
In the way Dean Burgon repudiates the Engllsh Revised Version of 1881 and defends the Authorized King James Bible, this book will also form a strong basis for defending the King James Bible against the modern versions such as the NASV, NIV, RSV, NRSV, NEB, TEV, CEV, and the others.

Publishers Description
The importance of this book cannot be underestimated. There is no one book that exposes Westcott and Hort's false Greek Text and false Greek theory behind that text any more thoroughly and convincingly than The Revision Revised. Dean Burgon defends the traditional text of the New Testament. He shows clearly the defects in both manuscript "B" (Vaticanus) and manuscript "Aleph" (Sinaiticus). It is very important to see the arguments contained in this historic volume because virtually the same Greek text of Westcott and Hort (1881) FORMS THE BASIS OF ALMOST ALL OF THE MODERN VERSIONS AND PERVERSIONS. See the Appendix, pages 2-3.

Thank God for Dean Burgon!  May 2, 2007
Unanswered refutation of Westcott & Hort textual theory. Not the easiest one to read about textual criticism, but extremely informative. Burgon was a man who stood straight for the truth against the whole tide of deceit. This is not the book to begin with textual criticism. If you are not acquainted with issues involved, you may find this a bit hard to read. But eventually this is a must read. In this book Burgon exposes the roots of modern day confusion in the area of textual criticism. Truly, man is not to judge GOD'S word.

We salute you, Dean John William Burgon, True champion of textual cholarship!
Classic refutation of Wescott/Hort Theory  Jun 23, 2004
This is not easy reading for the weak and lazy! This is a classic that will not go away because it has never been answered by his foes!! He was contemporary with the men and knew the materials. He was perhaps the most respected textual critic of his day along with F.H.A. Scrivener. You need to have this book and read it over and over again with your KJV Bible in hand, and also, if you have it, a Greek text. It is absolutely essential that the general Christian public get to know this man of integrity and wealth of knowledge given to him for not only his day but ours. He is far from some relic to sit on the shelf and ignore! He cannot be ignored!! Read him and anything he has written.
Plenty of sound and fury...  May 31, 2001
Writing at the end of the 19th century, John Burgon, the Dean of Chichester, provided plenty of bombast in trying to demonstrate that it was completely unnecessary, and even misguided, to undertake a revision of the King James Bible. It's hard to swallow his thesis, but he gives it his best shot, with a lot of scathing invective thrown in along the way.

As an example of the sort of argument found in the book, he spends many pages trying to show that the translation of 1 Tim 3:16 was perverted by the revisers. It's hard to give a good idea of the argument here, since it would require some special typography. The basic question concerns the two letters "OC" which occur in the passage in the Greek manuscripts; the sore point is whether there is a horizontal line through the center of the "O" (making it a theta) and an overbar above both letters (showing that it is a contraction). Burgon goes on and on about this point, striving mightily to show that the two horizontal lines were really there in the "best" manuscripts. My take on the problem is pretty simple: Who cares? It's hard to believe that vigorous men of a previous era could work themselves into a red-hot anger over such trivialities.

I have to conclude that, for the majority of readers, this book would be a period piece; it would be taken seriously today only by those whose judgement of what is important and unimportant has been impaired by their religious belief.

Dean Burgon is a giant!  Oct 9, 1998
This book is an in-depth, factual, scientific refutation of the English Revised Version and the underlying manufactured Greek New Testament text. It is a "must-read" for all students of the Bible, since every modern "Bible" (except the NKJV) is based upon this same textual theory, basically, that Burgon proves beyond any reasonable doubt to be pure fantasy!
Demolishes the Revision Committees work of 1881  Jan 26, 1998
Dean Burgeon lays out the argument for the errors of the Westcott and Hort Greek Text that is so commonly used today for the New Testament. This is a linguistic tour de force that still remains unanswered by the textual critics who espouse the modern bible versions based on the W-H Greek Text. Most effectively, he illustrates the errors of historical textualism that the revisers followed in developing their text and destroys the Trojan Horse that the W-H Text was brought inside of. A must read for any student of the Bible. The only question is when opponents will stop ignoring and start answering Dean Burgeon's thesis.
