Reviews - What do our customers think?
Insightful and lucid reading   Dec 2, 2005
This is a well written reading of Mark without much technical jargon. Dowd brings both Jewish and Greco-Roman source documentaton to bear in her treatment of Mark. This is not a full detailed commentary that states everyone elses view and then dismantles the stated views for the purpose of getting to ones own conclusion. It is, rather, a working through Mark with the reader. She does not get into any discussions about form or text criticism (outside of the ending of Mark), but lets the reading come forward in a lucid manner. If you are looking for conclusions on Mark from a top scholar, who gives a somewhat conservative and feminist perpective (I hesitate to add feminine, because that is not her focus, though she does specifically highlight women at times.) then this commentary is definately worth reading.
