Overview
This guide to attaining the gratitude that frees our spirit helps us to appreciate more deeply family, community, the earth and ourselves.

Mary Jo Leddy's new book is a meditation on the miracle of the everyday and a guide to discovering what is most real in oneself. The process she describes leads to "radical gratitude" that allows the spirit to appreciate the earthy things that give true joy. Gratitude, she says, arises in the in-between space where the inner and outer worlds meet.

"In radical gratitude," she writes, "the vicious dissatisfaction with life is broken. We begin to recognize what we have rather than what we don't...we awaken to another way of being, another kind of economy, the great economy of grace in which each person is of infinite value and worth."

Mary Jo Leddy teaches theology at Regis College and, for the last twelve years, has lived and worked with refugees in Toronto in the Romero House Community. She is the author of Reweaving the Religious Life and a contributor to Turning the Wheel: Henri Nouwen and Our Search for God.

Publishers Description
Mary Jo Leddy's latest book is a meditation on the miracle of the everyday and a guide to discovering what is most real in oneself. That process leads to "radical gratitude" that allows the spirit to soar and experience a great paradox. The freer one becomes, the more one appreciates the earthy things that give true joy and become the path to greater authenticity. For Leddy, ever the wise spiritual director, the path to that authenticity and gratitude also becomes the path to a deeper relationship with the God of ordinary grace. Ever aware of the way zealots morale about changing the world, while themselves being slaves of anger and the need for external order to compensate for an inner void, Leddy unfolds the Christian life as a Way of responding to ordinary grace that in time will make an extraordinary difference. "In radical gratitude, " she notes, "the vicious dissatisfaction with life is broken. We begin to recognize what we have rather than what we don't ... we awaken to another way of being, another kind of economy, the great economy of grace in which each person is of infinite value and worth."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
A life-changing perspective!  Sep 14, 2009
Mary Jo Leddy's Radical Gratitude is a must-read for Christians "in the North and in the West." Living in the most affluent society in history, many North American Christians are still caught up in materialism and discontentment. Our constant comparisons with others make us feel short-changed, although we are more financially prosperous than most of the world. Even those of us who abhor the greedy prosperity gospel that seems so prevalent today can still be caught up in measuring our success and self-worth by what we attain. Leddy suggests we need to develop an attitude which sees God's hand in both the large and small things in life, and to realize what a wonderful miracle life itself presents to us each day. Serving God out of a grateful heart, as opposed to constantly seeking to accumulate, can create a life-changing reshaping of one's attitude. This book offers a real and profound way of looking at life; it is far more than just a reminder to be thankful. I read it two years ago, and find it still resonating in my life today.
