Item Description...
Is your marriage suffering since you moved to a Western cultured country? The culture and spiritual beliefs of Africans are very different from the prevailing cultures and beliefs of Western Europe and North America. The surge of immigrants from Africa to Western societies in the past three decades has created a new set of marital conflicts peculiar to these immigrants. These conflicts are bringing about divorces among people who would ordinarily stay through tough times in their marriages. Through this book, Femi has brought the peculiar issues up front and on stage for African immigrants in Western culture to discuss and hopefully, through dialogue and information, work through their conflicts instead of divorcing. This book can also be useful for Westerners married to Africans.

Elegant Book By A Very Wise and Eloquent Author  May 5, 2003
Mr. Awodele's book had me enthralled from the beginning to the end. I immigrated to the US in my mid-20's, and pretty much had my views regarding how marriages should work already embedded in my subconscious. I met a woman of Nigerian descent in North America, and we got married. The realities of running my marriage and my home are different from how we were raised in Nigeria. Even though we did not immigrate to the US as a couple, we had to contend with the peculiarities of our seperate upbringing, and the realities of running our home as equal partners. Subduing my masculine pride and expectations was paramount. Reading Mr. Awodele's book had me nodding in agreement with most of the problems he quoted as examples. He explains the concept of an "African" upbringing very eloquently. The African societal and hierarchical way of doing things and running marriages has its pros and cons, but the trouble arises when couples immigrate to western societies. Mr. Awodele suggests simple solutions towards easing the cultural shock that leads to problems in many African couples' marriages in the diaspora. His suggestions are very practical without being threatning to any of the parties concerned. Most importantly, the solutions proposed are consistently backed up with Biblical principles of respect, humility and consideration for other people, especially one's spouse. My wife and I learnt a lot from reading this book. It is a must read for African families in western societies, and all new or prospective immigrants. Kudos to the author!
Plain, Simple and Interesting  Mar 29, 2003
This book is plain, simple, revealing and very captivating to read. It practically analyzes the problems faced by African marriages in western world and offers practical solutions as well. Femi has experienced some of these conflicts and so he understands not just the problems, but also the root causes of them. It is a must read for all Africans and other immigrants in the western world and also marriage counselors.
