Item Description...
What if, more than anything else, Christians were known for being servants? In Dave Workman's collection of biblical reflections, poignant stories, and practical ideas, you'll be challenged to develop the outward-focused life . . . and discover the simple joy of being the Body of Christ in a love-starved world.

Publishers Description
Dave Workman wants to start a revolution that will turn Christians--and the world--inside out. With keen insight and sharp wit, Workman uncovers our self-motivated and self-centered tendencies and shows us how to turn them around in service to others. A collection of short chapters derived from Workman's popular radio program, "The Outward Focused Life" offers busy people practical ideas that turn their thoughts from themselves to other people. This book gives readers the encouragement and energy they need to change their world one day at a time though generosity of time, money, and spirit.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
The Outward Focused Life  Aug 11, 2009
Are you interested in helping people grow in Christ? This book will help you do just that! It will help members of your church grow in their relationship with Christ and help them to reach out to others to introduce them to the love of Christ. This book has many suggestions that anyone can do! Give it a try; you'll like it!
Highly recommend!  Apr 2, 2009
We have just completed a Community Group Bible Study using this book. It has taught us so many valuable things on how to be outwardly focused and to love and listen well to those in our community. I nhighly recommend reading this book
Personal Study: Yes / Group Study: Probably Not  Dec 12, 2008

This is a combined review from the 10 persons in my small group:

We liked the theme.
We liked the way the book is broken down into small sections
We liked the stories.
We liked many of the ideas for service.

We didn't like the simplicity. By simplicity, we don't mean ease of understanding, but lack of depth.
We didn't like the repetition.
We didn't like the way the author sometimes gets off track even when on one simple, small, point.
We didn't like the way the author plays a little loose with Scripture. This doesn't mean the author has poor theology, but Scripture use is more inspirational than scholarly. This calls into question whether emphatic statements should be so emphatically stated.

Personal Note:
I gave the book the highest rating out of the ten of us. This is probably a better devotional book for the individual person than for a small group. Our group has people from three evangelical denominations. All of them are free thinkers. All of them like the challenge of discussing spiritual material together and learning from each other. This was not the book for that setting. The book ran out of steam before we ran out of book.

Offers great perspective through 1-2 page reflections  Nov 30, 2008
I am about a third of the way through this book with a Bible study at my church. Though the format is different than what I expected (more on that below), I really like the message that Workman conveys. He offers Biblical and here-and-now examples of living a servant life. As an adult singles group, we were particularly interested in a study focused on giving/serving, and so far this book has sparked great discussions and plans of action.

The Outward Focused Life is a collection of 1-2 page reflections that originated as 2 minute Christian radio spots. They are divided into 9 collections on topics such as Generosity, Availability, etc. and many include scriptural references.

I recommend this book for group or personal study if you are looking for something that goes against the me-me-me culture.
Love it, love it, love it!  Sep 4, 2008
Dave Workman is a very skilled wordsmith. I love the way he thinks and writes.

This book is a collection of 2 minute radio manuscripts he wrote for his broadcast in Ohio, which makes it an excellent book to keep on your toilet tank. You can easily read one or two entries in one sitting, so to speak.

I'm a Vineyard guy myself, and I am constantly proud with what our movement is producing for the kingdom beyond worship CD's. Way to go, Dave. Keep up the great work.
