Item Description...
On foot, J. Nelson Kraybill enters Canterbury just in time for a Pentecost service at that city's great cathedral. He has spent ten days On the Pilgrims' Way, praying and conversing with fellow pilgrims for 140 miles. With notebook and camera, Kraybill records a wealth of insight from fellow pilgrims: Mennonites, Baptists, Anglicans, Catholics, and others. Each evening at an inn, Kraybill outlines a chapter of this book. More than a travelogue, it is a provocative handbook on issues every disciple of Jesus needs to consider.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
The Canterbury Trails  Jun 3, 2005
This is one of the most delightful books on Christian discipleship I have come upon in years, such that I ordered copies for two friends before I had begun reading the final third of my own. Kraybill, an American Mennonite in London during the 1990s, spends twelve days walking the mediaeval Pilgrims' Way (of Chaucer fame) across southeastern England to Canterbury. Each morning he is joined by different companions invited from various Christian traditions -- including Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, and Bruderhof -- and a range of physical and spiritual maturity. They meet, read Scripture, and walk that day's leg while prayerfully discussing their perspectives on many aspects of Christian living. The result is a remarkably genuine and encouraging ramble through both scenic countryside and diverse experience and insight. I confess I did not realize until already well into the text that it had the same author as an excellent and decidedly atypical article on the Book of Revelation I remembered reading half a decade earlier in CHRISTIANITY TODAY. Certain readers may be put off by Kraybill's occasional asides extolling pacifism, a Mennonite distinctive, but these do not dominate the work. Should it fail to sell, the chief cause may prove, ironically, that very unconventional device which most enriches it -- for when people seek spiritual help they may be unlikely to look to a seeming travelogue. And such a mistake would be nothing short of tragic. I would encourage anyone who benefits from Kraybill's achievement to follow my example and buy at least two additional copies to be given away.
