More About Laura Ingalls Wilder

Laura Ingalls Wilder Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867, near Pepin, Wisconsin. From 1882–1885 she was a teacher in South Dakota. She married Almanzo Wilder in 1885. Laura and her husband, Almanzo Wilder, made their own covered-wagon trip with their daughter, Rose, to Mansfield, Missouri. There, believing in the importance of knowing where you began in order to appreciate how far you've come, Laura wrote about her childhood growing up on the American frontier.

Laura Ingalls Wilder has said that she and her sisters were busy and happy as children but loved Pa's stories the best. In 1932, when Laura was 60 years old, she wrote her first book, Little House In The Big Woods, so those stories would not be lost. She thought about how she had seen the settling of the frontier -- the woods, Indian Territory of the Great Plains, the frontier towns, the coming of the railroad, and homesteading on the prairie. She thought of writing the story of her childhood in eight volumes that would cover each aspect of the American frontier. These became the Little House series. Wilder finished the last book in 1943. On February 10, 1957, she died at age 90, on her farm in Mansfield, Missouri.

For millions of readers Laura lives on forever as the little pioneer girl in the beloved Little House books.

Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in 1867 and died in 1957.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Fabulous!  Mar 19, 2007
Whether you have read the Little House books or have never heard of them, this book on tape is wonderful for everyone from small children to adults. The narrator who reads it does an amazing job of capturing the childhood wonderment and emotions Laura was trying to convey. It is also so interesting to hear the way families lived back in the 1800's. I could listen to this book on tape over and over again.
On the Banks of Plum Creek  Jan 22, 2007

Book review
I did my report on the book called On the Banks of Plum Creek.
The author of this novel is Laura Ingalls Wilders. It is also historical fiction.
This story is about a family that is very close. There is baby Carrie the littlest, the middle child was Laura but her nick name was Little Half Pint, and the oldest is named Mary. Mary was such a little lady she always did what her mother told her to do. But Laura was the rebel in the family she was always getting dirty or getting into trouble. But Carrie is too little to have a background. Pa traded his horses and bunny for a dugout from Mr. Nelson. There was a creek close to the house and they played there often but they must never go into the deep waters with out Pa or Ma (Laura learned that lesson fast).
I loved this book because I love the time period it was set in and I have read many stories by the same author like Little House in the Big Woods. It would suit some one who loves Family stories and the time period and his farm world it is more like a fun book to read but it is Historical fiction as well.
What an Awesome Book  Jun 23, 2006
The Author is very dicriptive and enter alot of excitnent into this book. This Book Lets readers visualise pioneer life!

Awesome Book
My wife and I have been reading these wonderful books for well over fifty years now and they have lost none of thier charm. Wilder's simple style and sincerity come through on every page. These books, this one included, are classified as children's literature, but I find that they appeal to the youth in all of us. I can hardly think of a better book, or set of books to get a child started reading. Not only are they exposed to some very good writing and story telling, but they also get a first hand account of one aspect of our countries history seen through the eyes of a little girl. I cannot recommend this book and Wilder's other books highly enough.
A Rate on the prarie  Dec 13, 2005
On The Banks of Plum Creek, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, a five out of five star rating, and memorable classis cheriched by readers for genorations along with the whole series.
The adventures of Laura Ingalls and her family continue as they move from "the little house on the prarie" and travel to Minnessota in their covered wagon. There they move into a dug out beside the banks of Plum Creek. Soon Pa builds a little log house for his family after their first Christmas on their new land. Laura and her sister Mary go to school, fish in the creek and start a whole new life in their home. But mistortune sneaks upon the family when a terrible grasshopper plauge demolishes Pa's crop and he has to travel east on foot to find work.
