Overview
Bradford's History of the Plymouth Settlement 1608-1650 Original Manuscript Rendered into Modern English by Harold Paget 1909 Few people realize that America was founded because a devout band of non-conformist Christians lived and breathed the covenant promises of Jesus Christ. Though the Pilgrims left England because of religious persecution, they actually left Holland to protect their children from ungodly influences. These parents risked everything to protect their young. Bradford boldly proclaimed that these families were willing to sacrifice their lives, if necessary, "even though they [the Pilgrims] be but stepping stones" for future generations of Christians they would never meet. Of Plymouth Plantation is one of the five most inspirational books I have ever read. It is the true story of 50 "average" people who changed the world because they shared a multi-generational vision. For almost two decades, it has been a cherished family tradition to read this book aloud each Thanksgiving. My father, the family patriarch, gathers his many children and grandchildren around the table and reads for several hours the story of Bradford and the heroic Pilgrims. After all, how can we truly appreciate the significance of Thanksgiving if we do not know the real story? My personal library consists of thousands of volumes, but this is one of my most treasured. Your child should not be considered fully educated before reading Of Plymouth Plantation.

In this magnificent work, Bradford relates the journey of the Separatists from Screwby, England to the shores of the New World and chronicles their first fifty years in America. Reviews - What do our customers think?
A very wise decision..  Aug 20, 2007
I purchased this book to learn more about the first settlements of New England.
Bradford's narrative is a testament to the hardship and perserverance these newcomers faced as they overcame great adversity to eventually become a beacon of hope to a new generation of future Englishmen and women. I recommend everyone read and not forget the sacrifices made by these brave, yet resolute Pioneers of colonial America.

William Bradford was the start of our family in the country. I enjoyed reading his story in his own words. He was the reason for the family saying `Lord help me be right for though knowest that I am hard to turn'. It should be part of all history classes.

Excellent Read  Sep 12, 2005
This is an excellent book on early American history and the plight for religious freedom from England and other European countries. Just like William P. Grady's book 'What Hath God Wrought', this should be required reading of high schools and colleges.
