Item Description...
Overview
In 2nd Corinthians you get a picture of how Paul is a model on how to be a leader in the church. We live with Paul through the problems of overseeing many congregations in different stages of growth. We are given examples of how to deal with many types of disciplinary issues yet throughout it is a great example of the use of authority coupled with humility-two things that the modern world has great difficulties in putting together. I you ask Christian leaders for one of their greatest difficulties in ministry is, it is this, how to lead without arrogance. The answers on how to do that hare here Quotes: "Faithful to the text, Douglas brings the meaning of the great themes of 2 Corinthians right into the twenty-first century. His is the gift of lifting the great apostle's thoughts and experiences and transferring them into 'lift' and 'salt' for the church today. This is a book for ministers about their congregations; it is also a book for congregations about their ministers! Indeed, it will be a hard heart that is not deeply moved and renewed by the reading of New Life In The Wasteland."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Anyone interested in Christian ministry needs to heed these words  Aug 9, 2006
Not mine necessarily but those of Dr. Kelly. This book is written in a lovely manner- taking as it was originally a set of sermons preached in an expository style, it somehow translates into a very readable and easy to digest book which takes God's word first and builds the ideas out from it.

Those ideas are more or less as the Title suggests the cost and glory of following Christ in a true Christian ministry. This book has helped me to understand that going into full time ministry will require a great cost (whether it is exhaustion or giving totally of yourself to those you minister) it will be cost that you will have to be aware of and realize the need to pay it.

If this cost sounds to high, just as Paul did with the Corinthians so does Dr. Kelly by stating the insurmountable glory that comes with following Christ fully. This book will both scare you and stir in you a mightily desire for Christ. The cost is great, but the burden is light.

This book should be read by anyone thinking about full or substantial part time ministry to fully understand what it is you are getting in to. I can't recommend it enough and will eventually buy more copies (mine was provided free from Reformed Theological Seminary) to those who are fellow travelers in Christian ministry.
