Publishers Description
"An overwhelming number of us are lonely," writes Marva Dawn. "Sometimes we are lonely for a specific reason: our spouse has recently died or left us; our children have just gone from home or have been tragically killed; we are fighting a particular battle against illness or suffering the ravages of chemotherapy; we are new in the neighborhood; our values are different from those of our work colleagues; it is a Friday night and all our other single friends have dates. Sometimes our loneliness is a general, pervasive alienation: we just don't feel as if we belong in our place of work, in our community, in our family, even in our church." Our struggle with loneliness often results in a lament directed at God. We might say something like "How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?" When we cry out words like these, we find ourselves praying the words of the Psalms. In My Soul Waits, Dawn guides us through psalms that reveal the burdens of our souls to God, and in turn reveal God's profound, intimate concern for our pain and a promise to abide with us in it. Readers feeling the sting of loneliness will take great comfort in this very personal book. Those who strive to support the lonely among them will take wise counsel from the Scriptures it expounds. All will encounter a renewed hope in the One who lists our tears only to wipe them all away.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
hey, whad du yu want?  Jan 30, 2008
I'm gonna give this book a chance and order it in spite of the one star review. I cannot imagine why you would be looking for the book to champion "forgiveness" in the first place. Obviously the author is trying to help free people who are bitter to relate to the Psalm's cries of bitter suffering and then apply the balm in those passages to their hurts. The need to forgive others seems a pretty shallow retort to real loneliness and feeling like your life is crap. The excerpt I read in the search this book option seems to have the author trying to help people apply the balm of the text itself (Psalms) and not offer some simplistic general truth everyone already knows. If I find the reviewer is right I'll come back and eat these words, but it seems to me he was missing the stated point of the book....
Ok...I received the book and am now able to say I could not find any of the faults he cited. Where in the world did he come up with his views.
Did he even read this book? I have not read it all yet, but skimmed it all quite throughly... and his personal attack deserves rebuke. I'm laughing that he called her bitter. Look in the mirror dude! Disregard it readers. I read enough to see she is being maligned by this reviewer most unfairly. The author appears to be genuinely trying to bring glory to God and hope to people through a close study of some key Psalms that deal with suffering. I'll be glad when someone else weighs in who has read it.

Very disappointed. The reviews by the publisher were very good.
The author constantilty encourages the reader to seek out God, but she Never forgives the people who have caused her pain. There are many causes for her pain and as a result she is very very bitter. The intent of our study group was to look to the Psalms for answers but after 9 chapters we started to skip around in the book looking for where the author recoganized the need for forgiveness but we never found it. I would not recommend this book.
