Item Description...
Experience the same Spirit-filled words that Mother Teresa shared with the poor, the dying, the hurting, and the skeptical. The quotes, stories, and prayers in this book are hers. Mother Teresa's work for-and among-the poor has become the yardstick by which millions measure compassion and generosity across religious and political divides. While Mother Teresa herself always stressed action over words, it is the latter that have provided solace and hope to those who never have had the opportunity to meet her during her life. Though the world has lost one of its most admired women, Mother Teresa's words and her memory still serve to move men and women from every race and religious background to volunteer to help the poor.

Publishers Description
The collection of quotes, stories, and prayers in this book are all her own words and experiences. They were compiled from various sources. Her undying faith and concern of the human spirit is reflected in these passages. In her years of work, Mother Teresa has brought God to millions in places of darkness. Let her share her hope, faith, and love with you.

Pearls of Wisdom from one who Spoke with the Authority of Service  Apr 1, 2008
This book is a treasury of wisdom from one who lived a radical life of poverty and service so that she could be more effective at bringing Jesus to "the poorest of the poor in their holes on the streets."

Easily read, and with pictures from her life, this book is well organized. While "Mother Teresa: Come Be my Light" would be a much more complete and in-depth book on this (probable) saint, that one is also a much heavier read.

This book, "In My Own Words," is much more easily digested and serves as both a good introduction to this saintly life, and as a source of pithy pearls of wisdom in readily grasped and inspirational morsels.

This book belongs on the shelf of all Christians to serve as inspiration and guide in our treatment of others, and indeed, of any who desire, no matter their religious affiliation (or lack thereof), to serve their fellow human beings.
Actions Louder than Words  Oct 22, 2007
Even though this book is a very quick read, if you take the time to put yourself in her place through some of these short stories I think it will make you have a great respect for a person who did not write a book herself on how to make the world a better place, but rather inspired others to write about her ACTIONS, which no doubt affected countless numbers of people in one way or another. Overall, it is almost a prelude to learning more about her and, if you're so inclined to take her actions to heart, ask yourself why you aren't doing more good in the world yourself. Definetly would recommend, particularly as a companion to a biography.
Mother Teresa, In My Own Words by Gonzalez-Balado - Review by an author  Sep 22, 2007
Mother Teresa - In My Own Words by Jose Luis Gonzalez-Balado
The legendary work among the poor by Mother Teresa has become the yardstick by which the world measures compassion and selflessness. She spent every hour of her life in service to others, even using the monetary gifts given to her by the church and the Nobel Peace Price to build yet more homes for the dying and homeless. She owned no material objects and did not allow those who worked with her to do so. She had very strong and sometimes quaint convictions, but as all crusaders do, made a statement to the world and has inspired many. This book was written by a journalist who knew Mother Teresa beginning in 1969. He was among the core of followers of the Missionaries of Charity. Mother Teresa herself never felt it necessary to write anything and you will not find any literary gems in an anthology of her thoughts. This book contains quotes, stories and prayers she used during her lifetime. Mother Teresa, who only spoke when necessary, was challenged at the young age of eighteen by the words of Jesus, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it unto me." One of the outstanding concepts found in the book is that at the moment of death we will not be judged according to the number of good deeds we have done or the awards we have received, but by the love we have put into our work.
Trish New, author of The Thrill of Hope, South State Street Journal, and Memory Flatlined.
Good book, uplifting but not what I expected..  Sep 15, 2007
I felt good reading this book and was reminded what it means to be human. I now want to go bring an older friend home from an assisted living place to live with me. I would be honored to care for her.
I read this book in a little over an hour. That's the only problem for me.
