Reviews - What do our customers think?
Writers block???  Mar 22, 2007
I have been a huge Lori Wick fan over the years, however, I think she's developed writer's block or something. She is trying to introduce too many characters into her books to make sure she has a triology. Way too choppy and poor writing. She needs to get back to her old style and quit trying so hard to get a story. Maybe she needs a break.
If you want to try a new author with a refreshing approach, read "McKenna" and "ALl My Tomorrows" by Kathleen Sherwood. Much like the old Lori Wick and Jeanette Oke.
Don't let other reviews scare you off this book!  Jan 8, 2007
Be sure to read all three books . . . they weave the characters wonderfully throughout and truly show struggles within the Christian life -rather than the easy answers that are usually portrayed. There are so many times within the books that are great examples of scripture application to real life situations - it shows that living a christian life is more than reading the Bible and attending church.

Don't miss these!
Bravo Ms. Wick  Dec 11, 2006
I have long waited for Ms. Wick to write a novel in which the main characters did not get saved. Many people struggle with this decision. It is rarely an easy decision for someone who has not been raised in the faith. Sometimes people take a while, and sometimes it doesn't happen. Understanding the reasons that someone who is seeking stops, or does not find are important. While I have learned much about how to be a good witness to someone who has some of the "easy" questions about believing, it is difficult for me to find sources who tell you how to answer the hard questions. I was a little disapointed in how it occured in the second novella, but I was really impressed that she could leave the book with the characters as non beleivers. So often we have to do this in our daily lives, that it was sometimes frustrating to see it happen so easily for the people in the books.

Further, this series is about a town, while there are "main characters" this book highlights how people are deeply affected by thier environment and past experiences. While this may mean that we get to know the main characters a little less, if you take a moment to enjoy the connections between the characters, and see how a town was once more than just a bunch of people who happened to live in a given area, you can really enjoy this book.

This book is not like Ms. Wick's other books. I do not think it worse, or better, but definitly different. If you expect classic Wick, you will be dissapointed, but if you are ready for a new perspective and a community approach, you can enjoy this book.

I am also fascinated by the indignation over drunk/memory. Oddly enough, Alcohol does effect everyone differently, as do all drugs, including caffeine. Having actually met people who don't remember what happened while they were drinking, despite the fact that they don't look/act overly drunk, I can believe this possibility. I could also detail the physiology of being drunk (what happens in your body/mind), but I'll let you figure out that one. Just know that this is a completely plausible situation.
Moonlight on the Millpond  Nov 4, 2006
This is a good read. A little slow at times. I recommend the entire Tucker Mills series.
Disappointed  Aug 23, 2006
Try as I might, I can never seem to get into Lori Wick. I find her plotlines under-developed and completely unrealistic, the dialogue stiff and boring, and more often than not the characters aren't even likable. This is the case and even more so with "Moonlight on the Millpond." Jace and Maddie's characters are never fully developed, and their love story was boring and abruptly changed paces. One minute she can't stand him, the next minute they're making out. Then suddenly she hates him again...and then the next morning they're married. You could hardly feel sad when Jace's uncle died because you felt as if you barely knew him. The chapters skip around to several different plotlines that remain undeveloped and unresolved by the end of the book. This book was an utter disappointment.

If you want good fiction with depth, development, and great dialogue, I would recommend Francine Rivers, Karen Kingsbury, and Liz Curtis Higgs.
