Reviews - What do our customers think?
Great Introductory Commentary!!  Feb 22, 2010
Shank's commentary on the Minor Prophets works to introduce these often overlooked books of the Old Testament. Rather than deal with scholarly debates, Shank writes for the general reader of Scripture who wants to understand these often confusing books. He concentrates on explaining the meaning of the prophets in their specific contexts with limited descriptions of its significance for the current reader. Furthermore, Shank focuses more on a literary understanding of the books more than historical, source, or form criticism.

This commentary deals with the first 6 Minor Prophets - Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, and Micah - and offers a descriptive introduction for each book. The introduction includes a summary that explains how the book unfolds, the literary context in how the book was written, the historical context in which the book took place, and the theological context of applying the book today. Following the lengthy overviews of the book, Shank offers an outline, references for further study, and an extensive verse-by-verse commentary walking the reader through the text. All-in-all this commentary provides everything you need in introducing and understanding these Minor Prophet books and reveals their powerful message that applies to people today.

great  Dec 29, 2008
Dr Harold Shank is one of the wisest men on the planet. He is easily the best professor i've had-hands down. much can be learned from the book and if you have an opportunity to take any of his classes you should do so.

Theological and Practical  Sep 10, 2008
Harold Shank poses that rare combination of scholar and pastor--deep thinker and life coach. Both skills come to bear in this helpful volume on the minor prophets. Even more, Shank put these texts to work when he preached for the Highland Street Church of Christ in Memphis, TN. Highland's work among the poor, emphasis on social justice and holiness flow from these teachings.
