Item Description...
Many Christians believe that the true walk with Christ is full of specific guidelines to follow, maps to mark our way, and secrets we¿ll uncover that will lead us to a clean and tidy spirituality. Yet we often find our spiritual walk to be messy, which leads to discouragement and defeat. This book begins with the assumption that accepting the reality of our broken, flawed lives is the beginning of true spirituality. It will show us how letting go of our man-centered efforts to become more spiritual and allowing God to untangle our lives actually leads to a more authentic relationship with him. The result may not be perfect people, but people perfectly aware of the grace God offers to us every day of our lives.

Still Excellent  Jun 2, 2008
Mike speaks openly and honestly, giving voice to many thoughts and feelings of Christians who couldn't quite express themselves. This is an excellent book for starting conversations in churches and small groups. I've used it several times with my youth team as well. Groups express a freedom and a sigh of relief after reading it as it conquers the myths of a perfect spirituality and a formula for achieving spirituality.
It's Awesome! Everyone has to read this book!  Mar 27, 2008
This book is much needed for Christians and non-Christians alike! The way he writes can relate to all types of people. You've got to read it!

Messy Spirituality: God's Annoying Love for Imperfect People  Dec 18, 2007
OK, so... I am a college student! My name is Jimmy. I have been in church my entire life and it is no secret that the church has secrets! In this book, Mess Spirituality, Michael Yaconelli challenges the reader to consider our imperfections opportunities to grow spiritually! I have been in many churches and have come to the realization that Christians, like everyone else, have problems, and often try to hide them from others. So, I have read all but the last Chapter so far! I plan to finish this book today or tomorrow. I rarely read; in fact, this will be my second book of "considerable length" to have read in my life! I hate reading! I found this book very interesting and a challenge to my ideas of faith. How I came across this book is an important note to consider about my mindset approaching the book. I am a college student who has been at church probably every Sunday of my life. In the past year or so, I have been challenged to question my faith. If you don't know yet, college will do that! In my questioning, I still conclude that the story of Jesus and creation and forgiveness and grace is the absolute best explanation I have heard. So, I was frustrated with the war between my imperfect nature and my desire to have a closer relationship with my creator. This inward battle would not settle, so I sought answers. I sent out an e-mail to several people that I knew to explain my frustration as best as I could. I received a few responses. One response that stood out to me most was from an old friend from High School. This friend recommended me to read this book, that "in some ways speaks to these thoughts and feelings." I figured that it wouldn't hurt to look it up online. So I typed in the title and author in the search engine and one of the first things that appeared on the list of recommended sites was this I have never bought anything online before this with my own card, but I decided to make the purchase. So, I received it and began reading it. This is an amazing book! A few minutes ago I looked up some information online and found that the author died in a wreck at age 61. I am convinced that this man has made a great impact, for the better, on the world. This book will challenge any reader! I welcome challenge, because I understand that trusting my own understanding will not fulfill God's recommendation! "Lean not on your own understanding!" So, I will leave you with my e-mail address so that you can inquire about anything you want. I still have one chapter to go! My e-mail address is and my name is Jimmy! God Bless You All! - Jimmy
Give this book away.  Nov 12, 2007
I have given this book away at least five times but I am always happy to buy another copy. Being raised in the church everyone did seem to live in perfect happiness. The critics of this book are few and far between because it is hard to argue with gut level honesty. I first got this book as a new Christian and it really helped me gett over myself. Whenever I know somebody who gets saved I give it to them. I met mike once a few months before he died but I got the chance to tell him thank you.
