Overview
Henry began work on his commentary as "Notes On The New Testament" in 1704 and the monumental work was completed shortly before his death in 1714. Remembered as a caring pastor, a passionate lover of the Word of God, and a man of great personal integrity, Matthew Henry has left his mark on the hearts of countless Christians who seek a deeper understanding of the riches that Scripture contains. This edition of Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible uses the King James text and is abridged from the original six volumes while faithfully retaining all of the vibrant themes of that classic work. Everything here is in Matthew Henry's own words and nothing relevant to today's reader has been omitted.

More About Matthew Henry

Matthew Henry

Building upon a stream of exact exegesis beginning with the Reformation, MATTHEW HENRY (1662-1714) achieved a standard of applied analysis that has long marked his work as superior. He is best known for his seven-volume commentary on the Bible, which C. H. Spurgeon declared was "rich in analogies . . . superabundant in reflections . . . suitable to everybody, instructive to all."

Alister McGrath (PhD, University of Oxford) is the Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion at the University of Oxford, president of the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics, and senior research fellow at Harris Manchester College in Oxford. He is also a noted author and coeditor of Crossway's Classic Commentaries series.

J. I. Packer (DPhil, Oxford University) serves as the Board of Governors' Professor of Theology at Regent College. He is the author of numerous books, including the classic best-seller Knowing God. Packer served as general editor for the English Standard Version Bible and as theological editor for the ESV Study Bible.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Deep insights into the scriptures  Sep 21, 2008
Matthew Henry's deep insights into God's word are very useful food for thought. Its very difficult to find such deep thought and honest scholarship today. A very useful book to have, nicely bound in a hard cover. This is a very useful reference work.

a great find for the true scholar  Aug 5, 2008
I was looking for an indepth commentary that held closely to the intent of scripture. Matthew Henry's work is awesome. His Puritan background is evident in a balanced presentation of passages and an emphasis on the restoration of the heart of man to his creator. The text is small but readable. A true scholar will enjoy the nuggets of truth found in his notes abundantly scattered throughout the work.

Matthew Henry's Commentary  Apr 25, 2008
Book was in very good condition, and the fact the seller was overly fair about the binding, and the the book is very thourough but the words are sooooooooo small!! I needed a commentary and I thank you for it so much. May God bless you

Warning!  Jan 14, 2008
The type that was used for this book is so tiny that it makes the book unusable.

Honest and thorough  Nov 5, 2007
This is a comprehensive commentary on the Bible by the scholar M. Henry. He presents his commentary in an honest, forthright way. It is well done and is a vivid interpretation of Scripture. A must have for all Christians! The book is very large and well put-together. Most sellers are giving bargain prices; you won't be sorry.
