Reviews - What do our customers think?
As we reflect in the wake of our Holy Father Pope Benedict's recent journey to open the latest meeting of the CELAM (Latin American Episcopal Conference) in Brazil. let us read some of the most recent spiritual and Catholic commentaries to emerge from that most populous Catholic nation.

For decades the most well known name of Catholic clergy writing from Brazil, after Dom Helda Camara and Bishop Pedro Casaldaliga, has been Boff, both Father Leonardo and his brother. Leonardo is still writing profound theological work, and published this present piece dedicated to exploring the eternal and compassionate and merciful presence of God's Loving Consolation in times of our earthly desolation, in the year 2004.

Father Boff might find reason to feel such desolation, yet he maintains his scholarly and academic writing style in opening to us the depths of this, perhaps the best known and loved of the 150 Psalms. Rather than lamenting his own fate, Father Boff carefully and universally opens these consoling words of victory and peace for each one of us who passes times of long loneliness, oppression and sorrow, rejoicing in God's constant unmerited goodness and loving-kindness, even when we least see it. Father Boff as a gifted pastor and preacher opens our eyes and hearts to the ever-presence of God's generous love.

After an opening introduction which reads like a symphonic overture, Father Boff brings us through Part One to see the apparent contradictions and deeper import of this psalm. Part Two explores the meaning of each verse of the first section of the psalm, called for good reason the Song of the Shepherd, as God guides us through our fear to gentle pasture and peace. Part Three does similar exegetical work on the remaining verses of what he calls the Song of the Host, where God leads us gently home, where he sets table for us and anoints our head with oils, to remain for all time in the House of God.

This book is a great and consoling gift for all of us who feel hard times upon us, fear, loneliness, loss, hunger, etc., as this book takes us kndly and gently by the hand and leads us compassionately to the realization of God's covenant and promise with us. By this book may we even face the fear of death, as God bringing us home to his house forever to joy and to peace and to dignity. A highly recommended book for all who suffer, for all who seek peace and pursue it, for all hungry human souls.

Please see also Father Boff's further careful and academic, amazingly universal yet orthodox commentaries of our common prayers in Praying With Jesus And Mary: Our Father, Hail Maryand The Prayer of Saint Francis: A Message of Peace for the World Today. Please see also Francis of Assisi: A Model for Human Liberation.
