More About beth moore
Beth Moore Beth Moore was born on an Army base in Green Bay, Wisconsin, during what her father describes as the worst thunderstorm the city had seen in five years. He affectionately says the Lord brought her into the world with a drum roll. The fourth child of a retired Army major and a homemaker, Beth was raised in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Her father managed the local cinema where each of her four siblings had a role to play. Beth’s job was to hand out samples of popcorn and soda. Growing up in the theater had its perks. Sometimes Beth would be allowed to slip into a movie and take with her a pickle bag full of popcorn and a Dixie cup of Coke.
There in a theater chair, wide-eyed and full of Coke, Beth began a lifelong love for stories. She loved to tell them, write them, and hear them. But the story that captured her heart and consumed her life was not told in a movie theater. It was told in Sunday School-the story of Jesus-a Savior who loved children thought she was special. A seed was planted in her young heart that would grow to mark her life with a passionate love for Christ.
At 18 Beth sensed God’s call to work for Him. Although she couldn’t imagine what that would mean, she made it her goal to say yes to whatever He asked. Beth graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in political science. She later received an honorary in humanities from Howard Payne University. She married Keith in 1978, and now daughters Amanda and Melissa have joined the family. As a young wife and mother, Beth began speaking at luncheons and retreats, Mother’s Day Out, and teaching Christian aerobics.
Beth took a Bible doctrine class at her church taught by Buddy Walters, a former college football player who taught the Scriptures with tears streaming down his cheeks. She fervently prayed for such a passion for God’s Word. It was Buddy who first taught Beth, along with Keith, how to study the Bible.
Beth founded Living Proof Ministries in 1994 to teach women how to love and live on God’s Word. She has written numerous books and Bible studies, including Breaking Free, Believing God-Hardcover, and The Patriarchs: Encountering the God of Abraham, Issac & Jacob, Leader's Kit, read by women of all ages, races, and denominations. American missionaries and expatriates have taken Beth’s Bible study groups up all over the world. Living Proof Live conferences are in all 50 states; attended by more than 658,000 women. Ever the storyteller, Beth is known to pepper her teaching with stories and poems written from the perspective of pertinent characters. She communicates with great energy, passion, humor, warmth, and grace. Beth attends Houston’s First Baptist Church, where she hosts an interdenominational Tuesday-night Bible study for women in her city.

God is always up there even when you don't look up.  May 14, 2010
This book is fantastic. It is written in a simple form that brings alive exactly what all you can go through when your life is looking down. Then it gives biblical truth on how you can look up when your life is looking down. Everything Beth Moore writes is amazing!

Petite yet powerful book!  Nov 14, 2008
"Petite yet powerful" describes both this book and its author. "Looking Up When Life is Looking Down" is a small, beautifully illustrated gift book based on Beth Moore's other book "Get Out of That Pit". The book lays out three ways to know you're in a pit, three ways into the pit and three ways out of the pit.

A "pit" is described as an early grave Satan digs for you hoping he can bury you alive. Pit-dwelling is likened to living in a cramped putrid old RV. The RV is cluttered with all of our belongings. After living in it for so long, we begin to smell just like it. We drive it everywhere, so everywhere we go is miserable and stinky! What if you were given the opportunity to get out of the RV and move into a mansion? Would you take that opportunity or stay somewhere vile yet familiar?

There are three ways to know you are in a pit. First, you feel stuck. You feel that this is where you will always live. Second, you can't stand up to assaults, trials or temptations. You feel as if your feet are surrounded by mud and mire. Third, you've lost your vision. What used to move you no longer does.

There are three ways to get into a pit. First, you can be thrown in. This is the most tragic way in because you are a pit-dweller through no fault of your own. This is a pit of innocence similar to the story of Joseph, who was literally thrown into a pit (Genesis 37). The second way in is to slip into a pit. We put ourselves in, but we didn't intend to. This particular pit it so painful because once inside, the enemy will gladly dole out guilt and remind us that "you did this to yourself". The third way in is to jump in. When we jump in, we are fully aware that we are doing something wrong, foolish or sinful, but we don't care. It looks so good. It feels so good. So we jump.

Although Satan digs the pit he cannot make you stay. Unfortunately God will not make you leave. The choice is entirely yours.

There are three ways out, all involve the mouth and are possible by the grace of God. Cry out, confess and consent. First, cry out to God. Be honest with Him. He can handle what you have to say. Second, confess. Confession goes beyond the obvious (admitting sin) to confessing to God that you agree that He is who He says He is and telling Him that you need Him and love Him. Honestly tell Him out loud what is on your mind. Third, consent. Beth Moore writes, "Consent is the most beautiful part of the process of getting out of a pit. There is no ambiguity about this. God wants you out of that pit. All you have to do is consent".
