Overview
A practical guide to one of the most urgent social issues of our time. After thousands of years, the dream of a world without war may seem hopelessly unrealistic. But, asWinslowMyers shows in this concise, eloquent primer, what is truly unrealistic is the notion that war remains a reasonable solution to the conflicts on our planet. He begins by showing why war has become obsolete (though obviously not extinct): it doesn't solve the problems that supposedly justify it; its costs are unacceptably high; the destructiveness of modern weapons could lead to human extinction; and there are better alternatives. After elaborating on these points, he outlines a new way of thinking that will be necessary if we are to move beyond war, in particular, recognition of our"oneness" and global interdependence. Finally, he outlines practical alternatives and inspiring examples that anticipate the goal of a world"beyond war."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
War is obsolete  Mar 5, 2010
This book contains the clearest description of a world without war I have ever read. The author makes a solid case for a world that has transcended war and is able to have the tools for living in non violent conflict or peace. Though the lessons and with encouragement of group discussion, as well as use of DVD's to illustrate certain topics, it is extremely convincing.I hope that this book will be used to support a continuing movement and help to grow it to a critical mass, so that war will finally be abolished and non violent solutions to regional conflicts can take its place.

War is simply not an efficient way to resolve conflicts in the modern era  Jul 18, 2009
The military of the forces loyal to Saddam Hussein could not dream of holding a candle to the full force of the United States military. But if this is the case, why hasn't victory been simply declared? "Living Beyond War: A Citizen's Guide" is author Winslow Myers' anti-war writings explaining his own beliefs and views. While war is something that can't be avoided in many cases, it's simply not an efficient way to resolve conflicts in the modern era. "Living Beyond War" is a very much recommended read.

Peaceful ends through peaceful means.  Apr 13, 2009
This is an inspirational book that helps each of see how we can and do affect those around us in our everyday lives. "We must be the change we seek in the world". Peace is not only the goal, it is the path. Winslow Meyers opens our eyes to our own peaceful potential; and how that in itself makes us one step closer to a peaceful planet.

A Comprehensive Roadmap to Our Future  Mar 22, 2009
This well-written book provides the tools necessary to empower citizens to help build a world where conflicts are resolved non-violently. Winslow Myers makes the case why our current thinking about war is no longer valid today - and he specifically outlines the proven and practical steps necessary to create peace - on the personal, national and global level. The questions and references at the end of each chapter are thought-provoking, and they make the book very usable for group discussions or book clubs.

We already are beyond war.  Mar 17, 2009
The timing of this book and the appropriateness of its message is right on. Beyond War was once a Utopian goal, but is now a pragmatic necessity. In fact, a close examination of all recent wars tells us we already are beyond war, but we just don't know it yet. Winslow Myers' book makes a clear and compelling case for changing the way we think about war.
