Overview
The Christian faith has implications for all of life. Yet, many Christians do not make the connection between the resources of their faith and the challenges they face in daily life and work. God's call to faithful living is often understood primarily in terms of being involved in church-sponsored ministries. In Listen! God Is Calling! author D. Michael Bennethum presents Martin Luther's teaching on vocation as a resource both for individual believers, helping them find deeper meaning in their ordinary daily labors; and for congregations, encouraging them to develop a climate that supports their members at work.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Kick in the pants for lazy Lutherans  May 15, 2008
As Lutherans, we claim to believe that we are made right with God wholly through God's grace; and that, having been made right with God, we are then motivated and inspired by love to go forward and serve our neighbor. Too often, however, we sit in church on Sunday and drink our fill of God's mercy but then on Monday forget about what we are supposed to be doing in response. Pastor Bennethum provides a welcome reminder that we are expected to serve God and our neighbors every day as part of our vocation - with "vocation" meant broadly, as Luther defined it - and provides some excellent suggestions for how the church can enable, empower, and inspire its members to carry the teachings of Sunday into Monday through Saturday.

I am a current diakonia student, and this book has been assigned reading in two of my classes. Not only I but all of my classmates have found it rewarding, eye-opening, and of great value as we ponder how we are being called to be of service to the Lord.

Highly recommended.
