Reviews - What do our customers think?
Why, Why, Why? ...and the answer is:  Jul 18, 2008
This book changed my outlook, and thereby my life. It answered many questions I had as to why a good God allows terrible things to happen, and the real reason why He seems so far away when we need Him the most. I recommend this book to anyone, Christian "rookies" and "veterans" alike, who are genuinely interested in looking deeply into the nature and mind of our great God. He IS good, and He is God, and He is much bigger than the mental box I currently have constructed to house Him.
A clear view of Job  Nov 29, 2007
The book is an excellent commentary n the book of Job. It is plainly written and easy to read. It is an excellent selection to use for family reading time.
We Think We Know More Than God  Oct 16, 2007
Ray Stedman delightfully delves into the troubles of Job, from a theological aspect. He corrects faulty understandings, prevalent in Job's 3 friends, which are rampant in today's churches.

In his exegesis of the texts, he explores the theodicy of God. Stedman many times comes to fuller theological conclusions. Man's inability to grasp a mighty God is brought to the fore. Secondary to this, Ray relates how pain and suffering impact relationships, and how having a high view of God, should impact on them: by seeking out God's best in bad times too. I was left humbled after reading this enjoyable and God-honoring book. It is always a deserving and just reward when, in times of suffering, we are made privy to God's goodness and faithfulness, which should make the difference and bear us through, as it did Job.

'Job never forsakes his awareness of the greatness and goodness of God. Though Job experiences doubt over what God is doing, though he feels misunderstood and mistreated, he respects the majesty of God.' pg 91

'Job is gradually learning to believe that God is working out His eternal purpose in a way that is consistent with His unchanging love.' pg 116

An insightful and uplifting exposition.

'I had a million questions to ask God; but when I met Him, they all fled
my mind, and it didn't seem to matter.' Christopher Morley on Job 23:3-4

'Whereas the people of God in the OT were often perplexed about the reason for their trials, the saints in the NT times can trace their sufferings back to their identification with Christ and rejoice that they are counted worthy to suffer for His name.(Acts 5:41)'
Everett Harrison, Romans 8:36 in The Expositor's Bible Commentary
Let God Be God  Aug 28, 2007
This is an outstanding commentary on the book of Job. Very readable and most encouraging to those of us who are suffering from what we think are very difficult situations/people. I learned a lot about how to comfort those who have lost loved ones, and believe it or not, I was encouraged by Stedman's explanation of why bad things happen to good people. This book was a great blessing to me.
A Unique, Superb Study of Job  Mar 6, 2007
Just recently I finished teaching through the book of Job in an adult class at church. I had Ray Stedman's sermon notes to refer to, but I also studied a dozen other commentators in preparing to teach my class. In his practical advice and penetrating insights I found Ray Stedman to be head and shoulders above the other commentaries I had in my library (or had purchased recently). Ray can not hide his deep, personal faith. His pastoral compassion toward his readers is evident. In teaching one book of the Bible, it is obvious that Ray takes into account the whole Bible and its complete message to mankind. Stedman's writing style is easy to follow even when the subject material is profound. Jim Denney's excellent editing of these sermons on Job makes this a book I will give to a good many friends--and a book I highly recommend to anyone.
