More About Stephen Cosgrove

Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! Stephen Cosgrove is one of the best-selling children s book authors of all time. His writing career began in 1973. At the time, he was working as vice-president of an investment company. Shopping at bookstores for his three-year-old daughter, he was frustrated by the dearth of fun-to-read picture books that also convey positive values. Consequently, he decided to write his own stories. Teaming with Seattle illustrator Robin James, Cosgrove went on to create four titles that became the foundation of his best-selling Serendipity series, which have sold over 80 million copies worldwide. Since then, he has written more than 300 books, some under his own name and others using pseudonyms, ranging from picture books to young adult thrillers. His complete works have sold close to 100 million copies. Mr. Cosgrove has been honored by Idaho State Legislators for career achievement and has won the Coors Lumen Award for family values. He is also the winner of multiple Children s Choice Awards. He lives in Austin, TX.
Robin James is a gifted illustrator and a native of the Pacific Northwest. She has loved art and animals all her life and has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. Through the years, she has created a wide variety of artwork from animal portraits to wildlife paintings and has illustrated over 75 children's books, and is published worldwide. She lives in Snohomish, WA.

Serendipity books are back!  Oct 4, 2007
My children enjoyed this and the other Stephen Cosgrove books when they were young; now we've been able to read them to our grandchildren. The stories are straightforward, teaching lessons about self-confidence and sharing, and good to read to toddlers, or for early readers on their own.
Wonderful book  Jul 8, 2007
This book is the first of three others. This book is magic. I have used this book with all ages (adults to the non-reading child). I have given many copies away. There are beautiful illustrations. Both the author and the artist are very talented. This has a story that we each could remember when confronted with difference (our own or others). This book is one of my favorites of all time.
Normal is whatever you are!  Sep 11, 2006
The first book I ever learned to read! I am now teaching a few reading classes, and in my attempts to tap into whatever it is that motivates us to read, I immediately thought of this book. Partially I loved it because it represented an achievement, but I loved that Leo's differences ended up making him so special in the end. I am sure that we can all appreciate his struggles to "fit in", such as hanging upside-down from a tree to make his ears go straight. My mom still says, "Normal is whatever you are," whenever I have needed some affirmation, or when I have become critical of others. The use of animals to portray the moral makes the story universal and entertaining. I guess it's geared for readers 4-8, but I recommend it for anyone.
My first  Feb 1, 2005
My youngest brother bought this book for me when I was about 21 years old. I was raising French Lop rabbits, which is why he bought it. Little did he or I know what was in store for me. I am now nearly 47 years old, still have that first book. I read it to my kids when they were little, along with other Serendipity books, among which is "Buttermilk." Even now, when things are rough in their lives, my kids, (now 10 & 14) will ask me to read "Buttermilk" and "Leo the Lop" to them when they go to bed.

More than the morals of the stories, my kids find a kind of peace and safety from the books. So do I. Simply put, they are magical.

As for "reviewing" this book here, I give it the highest rating possible. I highly recommend it to everyone, children and adults alike. Adults can learn a lot from children's books. And they can remember those things they've forgotten along the way. Great, great book.

I can only thank the Stephen Cosgrove and Robin James for these books. My love of them started with this one little book: "Leo the Lop." Thanks so much.
