Left Behind Book One  May 18, 2010
This book is a very good read. I highly reccomend it for the following reasons:

1. Good character formation. They all have diffeerent thoughts, feelings, sayings, and actions. There is no repeating in character formation. The bad guy is truly evil.

2. Good storyline. The storyline for this book is one of the best I have ever reviewed. There aren't too many sharp turns in the story, although there is a good amount. The story is just very well formed and presented.

And that is what makes a good book in my view, so this is a very good book with good characters and a good storyline.
awful...just awful.....  May 14, 2010
OK... I was with an acquaintance of mine one day and she recommended I read this book and the others in the series. She said that if I liked science fiction and horror I was going to love it. So me being genuinely curious about all of the fuss with this book, and is the kind of person that is up for anything once, I decided what the hell why not(no pun intended)....What A Horrible Mistake...As I read through the book I found myself in complete shock and disbelief at what I was reading. I wish I could say something positive about this but sadly there just isn't anything good to say about it.

Here is a list of problems I had with this book....

1) From a literary stand point the writing was horrible. the writing is messy and amateurish, the transition from the descriptions of places to the characters dialogue is confusing and somewhat hard to follow. It reads more like a bad fan fiction written by a junior high kid then a novel written by two men. I kept reading it and reading it hoping it would get better but only realized that it only got worse.(I guess I should have expected as much from a book that has one of the main characters talk about his sex drive literally on page 2).

2)The descriptions are excruciatingly long and boring. I have never read a book that had like 90% dialogue/description and 10% action. We are given surprisingly vague descriptions telling us about what is going on. (example-"People were screaming" umm how? in terror? confusion? "There was chaos everywhere" like what? people setting stuff on fire? people running around like nuts? what are they doing? sadly you are going to have to let your imagination take care of this because its descriptions like this all the through it).

3)The scene early on in the book that goes into the disappearances on the plane resembled an old science fiction movie I saw on TV a few years back. The characters were strikingly close, the dialogue was close, pretty much everything was the same except the movie centered on parallel universes and not the rapture. copycat much?

4)The scenarios, behaviors, and reactions are just too unrealistic to believe even for a fictional work. (example- people obsessing over their jobs, people having no emotion/concern/compassion for others, the way they react to things around them, ect, ect....

5)The personal descriptions of the characters in this book are just flat out awful. I remember being up to page 200 and I honestly had no idea what ANY of the characters looked like. Are they short? Fat? Tall? Skinny? Red-haired? Green skinned? I couldn't tell you because I really don't know. Yet again just another example of the authors horrible writing skills. Not only do we not know what any of these people look like, we don't really know anything about them. What are their values? goals? dreams? hobbies? they are as dimensional as a paper cut out and equally just as unrelatable, so when all of the disastrous things start happening you really couldn't careless about them.

6) The messages and portrayals of things in this book I found questionable and really really disturbing.

A)They kept referring to Russia and all of the other countries as being "weak" among a few other rather derogatory things and portrayed them as having no intelligence or stability.

B)On page 4 one of the characters says "Saved people aren't good people, they are just forgiven." Umm what does being "saved" mean exactly? Not once in the book do they ever really tell you what that actually means or how you become saved, but as the book goes on you start to feel like they are talking about a particular church and that if your not apart of their little "click" then you are eternally damned.

c)The issue of suicide. they make it sound like its "ok"(kinda sounds almost expectant) for people to commit suicide if they realize that that they didn't get "saved" when everyone else did. what complete and utter trash.

D)The portrayal of the female characters was also a bit disturbing. they kinda just existed and depended on the men for whatever. I've been reading a lot of books lately and they all seem to be doing this with the female characters. (which I personally think that they are almost trying to put womens achievement's back a few hundred years...)

E) And last but not least the straw that really broke the camels back (the thing that really made me throw the book against the wall for the 50th time and just let it sit there for a month) the repeated anti-Semitic, anti-catholic and basically anti-everyone else thing really did it for me. All through the book the anti everyone tone is pretty clear with them dissing the pope, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, and everyone else, but they really went too far for my taste when I saw that they have a character on page 80 say (and I kidd you not they actually have a character say this) and I quote: "The Israeli's hate Jesus but look what God did for them." EXCUSE ME? I was personally insulted by that particular remark.(I am actually Jewish and could not believe they had the nerve to write such insulting misleading crap---as a matter of fact just about every religion out there regards Jesus Christ as him being a good and holy man, a great prophet and show him in a generally Positive way) I'm not going to get into this subject further so I'll just end it here.

This is a very hateful and trashy book. I would never recommend this series to anyone and I shudder to think that there are actually people out there who read stuff like this and take it as being fact instead of poorly made fiction that it is. If I could I would give this book a -5 rating. Really don't waste your time.
You should read this, so you dont "miss the bus"  Apr 28, 2010
The first in the series that explores how life may play out according to Bible prophesy to those "Left Behind" This first book was very interesting because I am very familiar with prophesy and I found it to be in agreement with God's Word on the subject. It not as fleshed out as I would have liked and is written more to a man's taste, and with a man's perspective. It is kind of stark in it's detail. This, the first of the series establishes who is who, and how they came to be left behind. It sets the stage for what is to come and how each person deals with the realization that God is real and they have "missed the bus" so to speak. It sets the stage for changes that are occuring in politics, economics, and religious beliefs. This book becomes more valid every year as our world, and country closly mirrors what this book lays out as an example of the end times. It is well worth reading and passing on to anyone. I have found it a great tool to introduce Jesus. It gives people incentive why they should not be so casual about getting around deciding where God fits into their world. A great way to start a dialog with pre-believers, or lukewarm Christians.
Left Behind  Feb 28, 2010
An unusual story that's not for most readers. It's based upon the controversial "rapture of the church" and the "tribulation" that follows. (To learn more about these 2 subjects you can search the web.) I found the story that revolved around the Investigative Newspaper Reporter interesting. However, the story that revolved around the Airline Pilot spent to much time preaching the virtues of religion. Thus the story was dragged out too long. And if you are not deeply religious you are certain to find the preaching overwhelms the story. Lastly, the first book ended in the middle of a climactic scene. This was surely done to interest you in buying the next book, however, I'll pass.
