Item Description...
In Learning to Sing, Clay Aiken tells the story of how his faith was integral to him learning valuable life lessons during his meteoric rise from life as an aspiring educator in Raleigh, North Carolina to instant stardom on "American Idol." Clay's advice is 1) Believe in yourself, 2) Believe in God, and 3) Be really stubborn. This personal relationship with God is key to personal success, as Clay has witnessed in real life experiences. When asked to "dirty up" his lyrics to increase sales, he resisted-and has sold more than 3 million albums. He refuses to make videos placing him in inappropriate situations, and considers his relationship with God the most valuable in his life. Learning to Sing is an account of Clay Aiken's extraordinary faith and will and perseverance, and an inspiring memoir by someone who became-against all odds-one of the biggest pop stars of his time.

Aiken's single, "This is the Night / Bridge Over Troubled Water," won the 2003 Billboard Music Award for Best Single. He was named the Fan's Choice winner at the 2003 American Music Awards. Reviews - What do our customers think?
enjoyable  Jan 15, 2007
I enjoyed reading this book very much. It was written quite well and the large letters was easy to read.
A very well written book !!  Jan 9, 2007
I didn't watch American Idol, therefore, I had no idea who Clay Aiken was until I heard his singing on radio. I enjoyed his songs so much that I bought his CD. Recently, I learned about this book, decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. This is a biography that is very real and non-intimidating. Clay Aiken didn't have an easy childhood and yet he was able to recount it with such honesty and sense of humor. I also like the fact that although he is young, he is all serious about the importance of being a good person and making a difference. I have the CD version of this book, my 11 year-old daughter and I listened to it in the car and we both enjoy it tremendously. I highly recommend it.
At Times I Thought I Was Reading My Own Story  Jan 5, 2007
I never thought a book could bring me to tears like this one did. I was looking forward to reading it just curious about the man behind this wonderful voice. His story tells me that his past unfavorable experiences help balance the avalanche of love and adoration pouring out to him now. I think about how intense my feelings have become and then see footage of his Claymates and have to wonder if he becomes overwhelmed. Is there such a thing as too much love for one person?

The sad part is there will be those who are jealous of it and feel the need to trample on this deserved success. While reading this book you begin to feel Clay is right there in the room with you and certainly don't want the book to end because that means he's leaving. He is by no means invisible. If walking on water or running through fire would guarantee a weekend with Clay I would start practicing right now. That officially graduates me from Claymate to Claymaniac. I feel certain this is just the beginning for Clay and want to thank the cosmic forces that brought this soaring positively infectious spirit to our hearts. I try not to question the pure excitement, the euphoria, but just wallow in the wonderfulness of it all. If I wrote our fan fiction the title would be, `For However Long It Last.' Its times like this when it's good to be alive. Thank you Clay for not being afraid... to sing!
reality check  Nov 23, 2006
I supposed if I'd had known Clay at his youth, I'd probably think he was annoying. It kind of teaches you to give people the benefit of the doubt. Don't judge a book by its cover, basically. Get to know the person inside. For someone with a rough childhood he sure turned out pretty well. I'm sure having faith in God has alot to do with it. He's the kind of person everyone needs in their lives.
child rearing guide  Nov 5, 2006
I wish I had read this a long time ago. Great reading for new parents and people who just want to know the right way to do things.
This was one of the best books and learning guides I have read. I can see why he is a teacher in every way.
