Item Description...
It is only as recently as the late 1960s that Roman Catholic and Protestant scholars such as Elizondo, Gonzalez, Isasi-Diaz, Deck, Aquino, Goizueta, Costas, Espin, and Villafae began opening theologians' eyes to the Latino/Latina perspective. There has been such an explosion of material, however, since 1968 that a guide or introduction to this emerging theology is needed. In La Cosecha: Harvesting Contemporary United States Hispanic Theology (1972-1998) Eduardo Fernandez offers that introduction. By dialoguing with other disciplines such as history, anthropology, sociology, and economics, Father Fernandez reveals an emerging theology in touch with the modern world. In chapter one, he begins with a description of the cultural context within which Hispanic theologians are writing. He uses pertinent history, sociology, and economics to provide a suitable background for understanding key theological developments within U.S. Hispanic theology. In chapter two, Father Fernandez provides an overview of U.S. Latina/Latino theology, rendering highlights of what has been written over the last twenty-five years by a group of fourteen authors. He discusses the main themes that emerge from their work along with a brief mention of each one's background and, finally, some general trends in their work.

Publishers Description
"I larned more from this book than I had anticipated. I recommend it heartily to all who are concerned for the future of Catholicism in the United States."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
This is the #1 Hispanic Theologian  Jan 4, 2007
This is a great thought provoking work from a great author who knows his subject
Good Introduction and Overview  May 7, 2002
What a wonderful and readable book --- kudos to Fernandez! He offers a thoughtful introduction to U.S. Latino theology taking his readers through the history of Latinos in the U.S., the development of this group's theological contributions, and the strengths and limitations of Latino theology's leading thinkers. He concludes by suggesting some prime questions for further study. Fernandez's book offers a succinct one volume introduction to this exciting field.
La Bombba  Oct 27, 2000
Another Jesuit priest's attempt at mind control. The Mexican community at large, needs to get over what happened over five hundred years ago. We could all wallow in melanoia and victimhood. This author was a professor in Berkeley when I was in attendance and his methods of writing and teaching are (covertly) abusive. Jesuits always have 'an agenda'. It's quite unholy. I am only sorry that Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz is involved with this novella.
