Publishers Description
Caldecott Medal winner Paul O. Zelinsky's first moving-parts book since the best-selling "Wheels on the Bus" is a beauty. To the verses of "This Old Man," an ingenious visual narrative follows a young boy as he ventures outside. Along the way, children can push tabs, turn wheels, or lift flaps to see ten different old men pop out of hiding to play Knick-Knack. Children (and critics) agree that "Knick-Knack Paddywhack " takes the interactive book to a new level of imagination.

More About Paul O. Zelinsky

Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! Jacob Ludwig Karl, the elder of the brothers Grimm, was born in 1785, andWilhelm Karl in the following year. They both studied at Marburg, and from 1808 to 1829 mainly worked in Kassel as state-appointed librarians, Jacob also assisting in diplomatic missions between 1813 and 1815 and again in 1848. Both brothers had been professors at Gottingen for several years when in 1837 they became two of the seven leading Gottingen academics dismissed from their posts by the new King of Hanover for their liberal political views. In 1840 they were invited by Frederick William IV of Prussia to settle in Berlin as members of the Academy of Sciences, and here they remained until their deaths (Wilhelm died in 1859 and Jacob in 1863).

Paul Zelinsky was born in Evanston, Illinois. He attended Yale University, where he took a course with Maurice Sendak, which later inspired him to pursue a career in children's books. Afterwards he received a graduate degree in painting from Tyler School of Art, in Philadelphia and Rome. Paul Zelinsky lives in New York with his wife, Deborah, and the younger of their two daughters.

Paul Zelinsky currently resides in Brooklyn, in the state of New York. Paul Zelinsky was born in 1967.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Delightful book  Jan 2, 2008
My little two-year old friend loves this book. We've been reading it regularly before naptime for almost 5 months. Yes, it has delicate moving parts, but with the guidance of a grown-up, he can manipulate most of them. He is learning to be careful with a book. Many of the pages are "well-used" which I think is a sign that the book is loved. Even after 5 months of reading it several times a week, we have had fun finding items on the page that we have not noticed in previous readings. That's the mark of a great book. It holds our interest. We even named the boy in the book Devon. My friend calls it the "Old Man" book and requests it almost every day. The entire book is cleverly-designed, and the last four pages are particularly delightful!
Great book! Love it.  Dec 29, 2007
My 3-year-old daughter loves this book! A friend bought her the "Wheels on the Bus" book that is written by the same author. Similar hands-on. She's loved that one for a year or so. We knew she'd like this one too. Can't say enough. So clever!! Only down-side is that it gets worn out quick with a toddler.
18 month old loved it  Sep 29, 2007
I bought this for my son for Christmas last year. He was 18 months old then. We had to read it every night. The only thing is that he wasn't old enough to take care of it so a couple of things got torn but that was to be expected. He loves this book still and I would recommend it to any parent.
Not for little ones  Jul 11, 2007
The book was cute and my kids loved it. Unfortunately they got into it while I wasn't watching and ripped the pull outs off. :'(
Interactive Books make reading fun  Jun 2, 2007
My children just love Paul O Zelinsky books. I have had to buy the Wheels on the Bus 3 times already because they just can't get enough of it and now I have Knick Knack Paddywhack.

I think I am just going to start buying his books for gifts for others with children because they are really that good. He takes songs that they know and love and makes them come to life with beautiful pictures. The kids just love interactions with Mommy and Daddy. This is a MUST!
