Lessons learned  Aug 7, 2008
Daniel & Ruth Wilcox have not been happy in their marriage for quite some time. Even though their relationship looks bleak, Ruth, the ever dutiful wife, is not ready to give up on their marriage just yet. But Ruth's effort to hold on appears to be all for naught, for Daniel has moved into a separate bedroom and is having an affair with a much younger woman. And if that isn't enough, Ruth finds herself having to come to terms with the devastation that results from several other secrets involving other members of her family that unexpectedly come to light.

I am a huge fan of Christian fiction and when I read them, I expect to be inspired, uplifted and motivated to look deep within myself for areas that I need to work on as I strive to live a life that is as holy, pure and blameless as I can manage. Keeping Misery Company, an average read for me, didn't quite live up to my expectations.

The storyline was not original and there were numerous editing errors that detracted from the story. However, the characters were believable, and I found myself identifying in some ways with Ruth, as well as sympathizing with her and with the problems she faced in marriage and life in general.

But what impressed me the most about this novel was Ms. Larks' ability to convey that while we all have freedom of choice, we must also remember that with those choices comes consequences and repercussions. God's word is true and when He says that we will all reap what we sow, believe it!

Worthy of your time. An example of a family not so perfect. It makes you want to question your own self. What could you possibly do to make you and your family's life better? Michelle creates a dynamic group of individuals who once thought their family was perfect until one by one they face reality and come face to face to the God forsaken truth. To everything there is a season  May 24, 2008
Keeping Misery Company is my first read by author Michelle Larks, and I look forward to reading her other works.

There were so many lessons to be learned in this novel and the author did an excellent job of executing the delivery. My favorite part of the story centered around the Clayton family and their reunion with Ezra, the prodigal son who was disowned because of the lifestyle he chose to live.
So many times we sit high and look low but who are we to judge and throw stones when we all stumble and fall short?

I enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it!
Great Book  May 9, 2008
I really enjoyed Keeping Misery Company. When I read the back cover I thought it was going to be just another novel about a man leaving a woman and her having to recover from the pain of rejection/seperation/divorce, but it wasn't like that. Michelle Larks did a great job making this story "fresh" and different. There was one scene in the book that literally had me in tears in the hair salon. That's good writing. Keeping Misery Company is a real winner and I'm looking forward to more from this author.

I thought this was a very interesting Novel. I was particularly interested in the character of Lenora. Other than the fact that she was a home-wrecker from the hood, she seemed perfectly flawless. I am interested in knowing more about her and what happens with her and Daniel in the future. I don't see them staying together. I also loved Ruth's friend Alice. She is a model example of forgiveness. If she could forgive Ezra--then she is a good woman. I want to know more about what happens with the sisters once the cat is out of the bag. How do they relate to one another? How did they explain it to Sarah's children or do they explain to Sarah's children. Life after the revelation is another 3 novels itself. One novel about Daniel and Lenora, one about Sarah, Naomi, and one about the Wilcox's in general. This was a really good read.
