Well-known for her speaking and dramatic sketches at the popular Women of Faith

Publishers Description

Well-known for her speaking and dramatic sketches at the popular Women of Faith(R) conferences, author Nicole Johnson explores the tension and differences between what women long for and what they live with. By exploring these two worlds with her one-of-a-kind, thoroughly engaging storytelling, Johnson uncovers a woman's true name, Princess Heart.

Knowing how women love to discuss their struggles and feelings, author Nicole Johnson says, "Let's get together and talk about it." And she provides this insightful Conversation Guide to get the discussion rolling. Readers will be encouraged to discover their true name, and find hope for living in the midst of a not-so-fairy-tale world.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Every woman should read this book.  Mar 17, 2007
I enjoyed this book so much that I read it twice and purchased a copy for my best friend.
loved it!  Feb 12, 2006
I loved this book! It was so easy to get into and spoke so many truths about women. It was simple enough to follow and the writing style was superb. If you liked Captivated by Stasi Eldridge then you'll love this one as well.
A Good Piece for Troubled Times  Nov 23, 2005
This book has a very special feel to it, because it makes you feel special about who you are.
The author has an interesting take on the elements as to why the fairy tale stays allive, which are the elements of recognition, adoration and consolation.
Johnson, however, is playing up more to the notion of disneyfied fairy tales and admits that those are not what we need as adults. As a reasult she rightfully is pointing to authors like CS Lewis, George MacDonald and Tolkein as stirring the adult psyche.
"Hope is beleiving in spite of the evidence and watching the evidence change," is what Jim Wallis says who is an incredible activist and preacher.
Timing of when you read things is everything because Nicole Johnson made me beleive in those words in a different way.
If this book is read when it feels like our hopes have disappointed it will be a true gem and it has a wonderful, magical feel to it. I have felt like my hopes have disappointed me and i know that i have become cynical about some things in my life. Johnson's approach was challenging and comforting.
Her approach to sentimentaltiy versus love was important. However, I realized that as an activist that i do need that sentimental feel from romantic comedy to remind myself how to feel and how to hope. Johnson pointed to God and reminded me that such things are merely surface items, although they can be comforting at times as well.
I would say that I would recommend this book to other female christian friends during troubled times. When we face our own disappointments. Don't read this when you are feeling the need to think: Johnson is negligent of a true content analysis of our culture's approach to things. Johnson is also negligent of pulling in scripture until the last part of the book. Johnson also does not really go into much detail on feminazis versus sentimental women tendencies which would have been interesting as well. The book does not have very solid research in anything beyond the literary and cultural fairy tale and even then does not go into much detail. However she does touch briefly on these things in a way that can bring a cup of comfort in discouraging times. I do not think that she means for it to be solid research as much as something to stir our souls. It is a well written piece of work, and there is a lot of truth to her words that stirs the soul. It is well written and i love the imagery that she uses her words and it is more like an essay that you would read in a church than something that you would bring to an academic setting.
I would recommend this book, just not necessarily when you feel the need to think too critically. Like I said, it is a good piece for troubled times.
It was ok  Oct 3, 2005
Not that it was a bad book but I think it's geared toward those who are more jaded with life. I did like how the author reminded us that we are daughters of the King and the last chapter for me, made the whole book.
Wonderful, wonderful book ...  Aug 19, 2005
I loved this book so much that I'm having trouble deciding which of my friends to lend it to first! It touches on so many issues that all women face today and puts things right back in the right perspective. I highly recommend this book!!!!
