Moltmann takes fresh approaches to a number of crucial topics: Jesus and the kingdom of God, the passion of Jesus and the pain of God, Jesus as brother of the tortured, and the resurrection of Christ as hope for the World, the cosmic Christ, Jesus in Jewish-Christian dialogue, the future of God, and other.

Publishers Description
J rgen Moltmann formulates necessary questions about the significance of Jesus the Christ for persons today. He offers a compelling portrait of the earthly Jesus as the divine brother in our distress and suffering and points to the risen Christ as the warrant for the "future in which God will restore everything . . . and gather everything into his kingdom." Urging that acknowledgment of Christ and discipleship are two sides of the same coin, Moltmann contends that the question of Jesus Christ for today is not just an intellectual one. Moltmann takes fresh approaches to a number of crucial topics: Jesus and the kingdom of God, the passion of Christ and the pain of God, Jesus as brother of the tortured, and the resurrection of Christ as hope for the world, the cosmic Christ, Jesus in Jewish- Christian dialogue, the future of God, and others.

More About Jurgen Moltmann

Jurgen Moltmann Jürgen Moltmann (born 8 April 1926) is a German Reformed theologian who is Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at the University of Tübingen. Moltmann is a major figure in modern theology and was the recipient of the 2000 University of Louisville and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary Grawemeyer Award in Religion, and was also selected to deliver the prestigious Gifford Lectures in 1984-1985. He has made significant contributions to a number of areas of Christian theology, including systematic theology, eschatology, ecclesiology, political theology, Christology, pneumatology, and the theology of creation.

Influenced heavily by Karl Barth's theology, Hegel's philosophy of history, and Ernst Bloch's philosophy of hope, Moltmann developed his own form of liberation theology predicated on the view that God suffers with humanity, while also promising humanity a better future through the hope of the Resurrection, which he has labelled a 'theology of hope'. Much of Moltmann's work has been to develop the implications of these ideas for various areas of theology. While much of Moltmann's early work was critiqued by some as being non-Trinitarian, during the latter stages of his career Moltmann has become known for developing a form of Social Trinitarianism. His two most famous works are Theology of Hope and The Crucified God.

Jurgen Moltmann has published or released items in the following series...
  1. Concilium: Theology in the Age of Renewal
  2. Gifford Lectures
  3. Paternoster Theological Monographs

A Masterful Discussion on Complex Subjects  Jul 30, 2007
This is one of Moltmann's works that I find very uplifting and spiritually important for me as I begin my ministry. It explains in understandable language how Jesus Christ is relevant in this modern world and how today's issues are answered with Christ. Moltmann is one of my favorite authors and his works, even though they may seen daunting at first, can be read and understood. This book is similar to his other work, "The Source of Life", in that it tries to answer and simplify complex issues of Christianity that, at times, people have difficulties with. These two books, while not as long as Moltmann's others works, go a long way toward delivering a good, inciteful answer. I have not only highlighted several parts of these books, but tabbed key areas for further review and contemplation. I would highly recommend both of these books for serious students and people embarking on ministries in any areas.
A Seminal Contribution  Apr 2, 2007
This little book/ booklet, which is a summation of Moltmann's larger book on Christology, is in and of itself thought provoking, and itself quite a useful classic in the field of theology. Smaller and easier in some ways to read than the larger volume upon which this book is based, one is allowed into the mind of one of the 20th century's great theologians. It is clear that Moltmann has given deep thought to the problems and issues surrounding the affirmation that Jesus is Lord and Savior, particularly in a post-Holocaust world, and this is his response; it could be used in an educated Sunday School class and provoke much thought and reflection. My copy has been well used--though I don't always agree with Moltmann, I learn quite a bit from reading him. Isn't that the point?
