Overview
You can't be friends with God if the God you believe in doesn't really exist. You can't depend on God if your God is a figment of your imagination. In a world full of gods, how do you know Jesus is real? You have probably heard things like:All religions lead to the same God.All faiths teach the same things. It doesn't matter what you believe_just that you believe sincerely. But Jesus said that.He alone is the way to God.He alone shows us the truth of who God is.He alone gives us life close to God.In this youth edition of Jesus Among Other Gods, Ravi Zacharias gives solid evidence as to why we should choose Jesus Christ as THE God among all other gods. Zacharias contrasts the truth of Jesus with the founders of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, providing strong descriptions of each faith and solid defenses for the cause of Christ. In addition to the religion comparisons, the book answers questions such as: "What about all the hypocrites at church?" "How scientific is science?" "How can you best share what you believe?" and "Does the Bible teach reincarnation?" You can never be too young to learn how to defend your faith . . . and this book will tell you exactly how to do just that!

Publishers Description

"You can't be friends with God if the God you believe in doesn't really exist.
You can't depend on God if your God is a figment of your imagination.
In a world full of gods, how do you know Jesus is real?"

You have probably heard things like: All religions lead to the same God. All faiths teach the same things.

It doesn't matter what you believe-just that you believe sincerely. But Jesus said that: He alone is the "way" to God. He alone shows us the "truth" of who God is. He alone gives us "life" close to God.

In this youth edition of "Jesus Among Other Gods," Ravi Zacharias gives solid evidence as to why we should choose Jesus Christ as THE God among all other gods. Zacharias contrasts the truth of Jesus with the founders of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, providing strong descriptions of each faith and solid defenses for the cause of Christ. In addition to the religion comparisons, the book answers questions such as: "What about all the hypocrites at church?" "How scientific is science?" "How can you best share what you believe?" and "Does the Bible teach reincarnation?" You can never be too young to learn how to defend your faith . . . and this book will tell you exactly how to do just that

Reviews - What do our customers think?
One of the Best Contemporary Treatment of Christ  Mar 25, 2007
Ravi is sharp and brilliant. As a Christian apologist, opponents dare not challenge this God-anointed servant. His debating prowess is wonderfully tempered in this volume with great research and insight into the life of the One who is called Jesus of Nazareth, our coming King.

Many cudoes for this volume. Yes,Jesus among Other gods should be read over and over.

A unique perspective  Jan 25, 2007
I find Mr. Zacharias work to be very passionate and on the point. If you look at his background you will see that he was raised in a multi-religous and multi-cultural enviroment. I think he offers a very unique perspective to western thinkers and has in fact helped me address some questions of my own.

Doesn't address the foundation  Sep 3, 2006
I was given this by a Christian friend. We are trading books back and forth and exploring spirituality. I can completely see how this book speaks to the individual who already accepts all tenants of the christian faith. He is a good writer and is clearly passionate. However, sometimes passion can get in the way of reason.

Most of my issues with the book have already been addressed in other reviews. However, a central fact the author assumes to be true is that Jesus did, in fact, claim to be God. His bible quotes come almost exclusively from John, a gospel that many scholars view as the least authoritative. This gospel was chosen by Iraneous in, I believe, the late 2nd century as *the* correct view of Christ's meaning. All others were squashed.

In order for one to fully look at this book with the criticism any similar work requires, one must first explore the source which the author so often cites. Hence, I encourage readers to look at Elaine Pagels' "Beyond Belief." I'm not saying everything she writes is true, but she gives an excellent historical account of how the early church developed - something any seeker (christian or otherwise) should come to understand. Remember, history is written by the winners. That doesn't always make what is written the truth.

Enjoy your journey...

Excellent, Intelligent Reading  Mar 24, 2006
I really got a lot out of this book. It is refreshing to hear someone with high intellect and first hand experience dealing with the various religions to expound on this subject. Ravi Zacharias KNOWS his stuff and critics of his book more than likely haven't done the superb in-depth studying that he has on this topic. It is well worth the time to read, if you really want to know more about the various religions and what is really behind them . I would suggest that if this book makes one angry, that most likely it is because the truth often stings. Highly recommended reading!

A truly insightful comparison of Christianity with other religions--not exhaustive, but very lucid  Sep 20, 2005
Zacharias' goal is not an exhaustive, thorough comparison (which could easily take volumes) but rather a lucid comparison of the core beliefs of the religions discussed. Herein lies its inestimable value. The style is more devotional than a writer like Francis Schaeffer, but the book still provides an effective apologetic.

Nor is his goal a cheery "conversation between religions"--which usually implies an agreement to accept all belief systems as tentative--but the application of his conviction in the uniuqueness of the Bible as God's only authoritative self-revelation and how that works out in contrast with the claims of other religions and their limited ability to live up to their own claims.

The most poignant insight I found was how Zacharias focuses on the DIFFERENCES between Christ and Buddhism, et. al., and demonstrates how the differences are more profound and important than the IMAGINED similarities. A good follow up is his shorter book, "The Lotus and the Cross," which works out that dynamic in a fictitious conversation between Jesus and Buddha.

I have found this book to be as much of an eye-opener in helping me understand "comparative religions" from a distinctly Christian perspective as Francis Schaeffer's work has been regarding a Christian response to both Secular Existentialism (Postmodernism, etc.) and Religious Existentialism (Neo-Orthodoxy).

This is a must-read for Christians eager to challenge the prevailing relativism toward religion in our culture, as well a for non-Christians who seem mystified by the exclusive-truth claims of Christians they know.
