Item Description...
An overview of the history, content and future of the modern ecumenical movement, with particular attention to Catholic leadership and the results of dialogues among the churches.

Publishers Description
Here is a comprehensive introduction to the spirituality and theology of the ecumenical movement as a whole, with an emphasis on the place of the Catholic Church, particularly the Catholic Church in the United States, within it. It surveys the issues that the churches have considered serious enough to separate over, and the development in recent times of methods for healing those divisions.

Included is a review of key Catholic and World Council of Churches documents on ecumenism, as well as specific relationships among churches: Orthodox; Anglican; Lutheran; Methodist; Presbyterian and Reformed Disciples of Christ; Evangelical; Southern Baptist; and Pentecostal partners. A concluding chapter draws together some of the priorities for the proximate future of the ecumenical movement.

This one-volume introductory text acquaints seminary and university students, as well as religious professionals, with the history, development and organization of ecumenical relationships between the several Christian churches, in a concise and comprehensible manner.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
This book does not tell both sides of the issues!  Jun 28, 2006
I recently puchased this book and found it to be very one-sided.
Roman Catholic sided! Of course most books written about the Ecumenical Movement over the last 45 years are written by Roman Catholic Authors with a Roman Catholic Slant. What about a Protestant perspective? Yes, Protestants are divided, but so is the Roman Catholic Church? Pre-Vatican II Catholics, and Post-Vatacan II Catholics. Where I live, in a predominate Roman Catholic city, I meet many Roman Catholics who are divided over Vatacan II Council concerning the Ecumenical Movement. I also meet many Protestants who are divided over the Ecumenical Movement. A thought provoking book written by a Protestant, "THE FINAL APOSTASY UNVEILED!" tells the other slant to the story. If Catholics and Protestants are to come to any agreement, We must get both sides of the Ecumenical issues.
An excellent overview of Catholic Ecumenical Theology  Oct 30, 2001
Br. Jeffrey Gros, FSC and his colleague Ann Riggs have provided their readers with a clear, accurate and very readable introduction to the history and theology of the Ecumenical Movement from a Roman Catholic perspective. Completely devoid of polemics, the author is straightforward on the issues which divide and unite Christianity
