More About Green Jay

Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! Jay P. Green, Sr. (1918 – May 20, 2008) was an ordained minister, Bible translator, publisher, and businessman.

Green was born in Ennis, Kentucky. He earned degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, Toronto Baptist Seminary, and Covenant Theological Seminary. His motivation to produce an accessible, more easily understood translation of the Bible began when he tried to read the King James Version to his children and they asked, “Daddy, why don’t you make a Bible that we can understand?” His first effort was The Children’s King James Version, New Testament (1960). He went on to produce a large number of translations of the Bible into English, some revised multiple times, including The Interlinear Hebrew-Greek-English Bible, in One-Volume. He once described himself as "the most experienced Bible translator now alive".

He died in Lafayette, Indiana, in 2008.

Jay Patrick Green currently resides in the state of Indiana. Jay Patrick Green was born in 1918.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Very Poor Print Readability  Mar 9, 2007
I own this book as well as the complete Bible version. I was taking Biblical greek at the time of my purchase and ran into numerous problems. All the problems I had were due to the terrible print quality. Let me be clear what I mean. It was like reading a page off a cheap fax machine. The punctuation was quite unledgible in numerous instances. Please don't fall into this trap. If you cannot read the text correctly with it's punctuation, then you can easily translate incorrectly. I felt the need to bring this to peoples attention.
prospective buyers be aware  Jan 19, 2006
1 The " leather" cover is bonded leather.
2 The binding is not sewn
3 The cover on mine was detached front and rear on arrival
4 The paper used is not the quality one would expect at the price ( rather a high quality paper back).

Given the preface(s) indicating the obvious concern Mr Green has for the New Testament scriptures the above are particularly disappointing given that a very few extra dollars expended by the publishers during production could easily have remedied these matters

Thank you this site for your helpful remedy.
Green's Interlinear by Hendrickson  Jan 11, 2006
I have been a CBD customer for over 25 years, I like much of their offerings. Their publishing firm is Hendrickson's, which outfit produces this volume. It is volume 4 of a 4 volume set of the entire Bible in an interliner format. The Hebrew font in the first 3 volumes is a disaster!

The paper is a bright white, non-acid free. It hurts the eyes. The print quality is poor, some pages very dark, some light. The text is much too crowded. Many of the added "strong's" numbers block or cover the Greek accents. The bottom margins of the pages are too small, as are the outside margins. Very poor design/layout features.

The binding is a very bad glue-injection, this book will begin falling apart very quickly. I can find no good reason why Hendrickson's published this work! It is very poor quality, and is inferior to all other interlinears. Save your money and buy a useful interlinear, one which shows respect for the needs of human readers, respect for the text of God's Word, and one which will last for a few years. Courtesy of: Gary S. Dykes

Good Bible  Oct 8, 2005
This Interlinear Bible is presented very nicely. Includes Greek text with Strong's numbers for easy reference, direct English translation under the Greek, Green's English translation on one side, and the King James Version to the other side.
I'm am pleased and would recommend this Bible to others.
Better than its reputation  Sep 1, 2005
Green's intro can be skipped. He believes that the Evangelists and Apostles were "God's printers". He recommends the Received Text because it was guarded by the Church (That is the Orthodox Church), of which he is not a member. That being said, this interlinear is a step in the right direction. There are a few typos and the words used for the literal translation does not always correspond with the interlinear. In 1 Corinthians 14 Green translated "adilon fonin" to "uncertain sound", though the literal would be "hidden sound". Green over and over does that what he says in the intro that he is furious over - interprets instead of translating. Mostly this is because he is unfamiliar with the Church's ancient interpretation of the Scripture, like the mentioned example. St Paul speaks in 1 Cor. about the silent prayer in the heart - not about indelligible babblings and trumpets. (Ref St Niketa Stethatos Philokalia Vol IV). The thumbs up is for the well-chosen Greek text, even though this is not the text used by the Apostolic Church, as claimed by Green. It is a text invented by Beza in the 16th century. However it still better than the UBS, since it is free of the Nestorian tendencies found therein.
