Overview
"In my end is my beginning," wrote T. S. Eliot, and Jurgen Moltmann's new book is a powerful testament to personal hope in chaotic, even catastrophic times. As Moltmann's award-winning volume The Coming of God laid out the systematic framework of eschatology (the doctrine of the 'last things'), so here he explores the personal meaning of that fundamental affirmation for Christians. Debunking the classic images of Christian apocalyptic scenarios, the final struggle between God and Satan, Christ and the Antichrist Armageddon Moltmann instead shows that Christian expectation of the future has nothing to do with these but everything to do with new beginnings and a horizon of hope. Three parts explore three particular beginnings: birth (childhood and youth), rebirth (failures and defeats), and resurrection (death, judgment, afterlife). This brief volume promises to be one of Moltmann's most personal and compelling books.

More About Jurgen Moltmann & Margaret Kohl

Jurgen Moltmann Jürgen Moltmann (born 8 April 1926) is a German Reformed theologian who is Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at the University of Tübingen. Moltmann is a major figure in modern theology and was the recipient of the 2000 University of Louisville and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary Grawemeyer Award in Religion, and was also selected to deliver the prestigious Gifford Lectures in 1984-1985. He has made significant contributions to a number of areas of Christian theology, including systematic theology, eschatology, ecclesiology, political theology, Christology, pneumatology, and the theology of creation.

Influenced heavily by Karl Barth's theology, Hegel's philosophy of history, and Ernst Bloch's philosophy of hope, Moltmann developed his own form of liberation theology predicated on the view that God suffers with humanity, while also promising humanity a better future through the hope of the Resurrection, which he has labelled a 'theology of hope'. Much of Moltmann's work has been to develop the implications of these ideas for various areas of theology. While much of Moltmann's early work was critiqued by some as being non-Trinitarian, during the latter stages of his career Moltmann has become known for developing a form of Social Trinitarianism. His two most famous works are Theology of Hope and The Crucified God.

Jurgen Moltmann has published or released items in the following series...
  1. Concilium: Theology in the Age of Renewal
  2. Gifford Lectures
  3. Paternoster Theological Monographs

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Excellent Reading and Inspirational  Oct 1, 2007
I have read several of Moltmann's books and have found all of them to be inspirational, ones that should be read by any clergy or person interested in theology. This one is no exception. Moltmann again writes in an easy to understand style, one that is based on personal background and from the heart and mind. His viewpoints on making sense out of the happenings in today's world as part of God's plan, not necessarily man's, gives one hope and preparation for that new beginning. His writings have been the basis and support of many sermons I have written and will continue to help me understand our relationship, not only with the Trinity, but also with man. Moltmann is able to take historical perspective in relation to the writings in the Bible and other religious works and make it come alive. He is one of my most favorite theological writers and will continue to be in the forseeable future. A definite read for all serious students of religion.
