Item Description...
Overview
Jaynes, popular author, speaker, and Bible teacher, says that just as Jesus countered Satan's lies with truth from God's Word, so must women today use the Scriptures to counter the falsehoods that all too easily creep into their thinking.

Product Description

It's easy to be deceived and to become hostage to lies, especially those we tell ourselves:

  • I am a loser
  • Nobody loves me
  • I don't have time to read the Bible
  • I'm not good enough
  • I would be happier married to someone else
  • My family would be better off if I were dead
  • Without an education, I'll always be behind

The list goes on.

Sharon Jaynes, popular author, speaker, and Bible teacher, says that just as Jesus countered Satan's lies with truth from God's Word, so women today must use the Scriptures to counter those falsehoods that all too easily creep into their thinking. In this book, Sharon looks at the common lies women tell themselves and shows them how they can replace those lies with Truth.

"I'm Not Good Enough"...and Other Lies Women Tell Themselves is a handy reference tool that will help women renew their minds and think God's thoughts rather than be swayed by the enemy's deceptions.

Letting go and letting God  Mar 11, 2009
Reviewed by Olivera Baumgartner-Jackson for Reader Views (3/09)

"I'm not good enough... I'm worthless... I'm a failure... If only I were [insert your own bane here... younger, thinner, blonder, cuter, smarter...], I'd be happy..." Does any of that sound familiar? Or more likely, do all of those sound all too familiar to you? Chances are, particularly if you are a woman, that you've said them to yourself so many times already they've became nearly a mantra by now. Let's face it, people tend to be overly critical of their selves, and we women are particularly good at this. And the more we repeat those things, the more we tend to believe them. Our minds are very powerful weapons, and our souls as well as our self-esteem are far from immune to them.

"I'm Not Good Enough'...and Other Lies Women Tell Themselves" by Sharon Jaynes is an illuminating book, and true to the first chapter of it, called the "House of Mirrors," one that hold a relentless mirror in front of us and fairly forces us to take a good look at ourselves. It is also a very freeing book, one that teaches us to be as forgiving and accepting of ourselves as God is of us, and one that shows us the truth behind such harshly uttered statements. Strangely enough, the truth is very freeing and immensely empowering. And what is that truth? Simple enough, it is one that teaches us that we are chosen by God, that we are worthy and that we are loved by God.

Divided into easy to follow, clearly outlined chapters, dealing with various lies we tell ourselves, filled with relevant quotes and exercises which teach us how to replace those lies with truth, "I'm Not Good Enough" shows the reader how to spot those lies and how to deal with them. Certain parts really hit the spot with me, particularly the one about "swollen imaginations" and "I'm not _____ enough." I was also deeply touched and intrigued by the "Why Do Bad Things Happen," a chapter that addressed some of the fundamental issues that I've always had trouble with.

Clearly geared towards the Christian woman, this book would nonetheless be immensely beneficial to everybody, since practically every single one of us is guilty of such harsh assessments of one's self. Therefore, if you would like to become more confident and happier, more accepting, and more accepted, make sure not to miss the valuable lessons taught by "I'm Not Good Enough" by Sharon Jaynes.

Top notch book about finding God's truth  Mar 8, 2009
I'm Not Good Enough by Sharon Jaynes is subtitled And Other Lies Women Tell Themselves. It's a terrific way to silence the voices that women (I know I do) hear that tell them they aren't good enough, would be happier with a new husband, or are unloved. Those are lies I hear far too often in my own head, especially the I would be happy if... I've often thought that I would be happy if my rheumatoid arthritis went away, but Jaynes uses Scripture and anecdotes to show why all of those lies are untrue and separate us from God's truth. I read Nancy Leigh DeMoss ' Lies that Women Believe several months ago, and while the two books are a bit similar, they address some different situations, and I learned a great deal from both books. DeMoss can be a bit condescending to her readers, but Jaynes is always full of love and compassion assuring readers that she's walked in their shoes and can relate without judgment. This would be a terrific book to do with a group or alone.

Great Resource  Jan 21, 2009
This is a wonderful, Christian-based self-help book dealing mostly with lies a woman tells herself that lower not only her self-esteem, but limit her potential in all aspects of her life. Many of today's women struggle with their view of themselves and how they perceive that others see them. Jaynes points the reader to God's Word to see what God says about us and encourages us to start using Scripture to defeat the lies that so easily bring us down. It is a wonderful resource to share with others.
