Item Description...
Draws on the experiences of two thousand new believers from the past decade to identify the factors that influence how people shift their perspectives in order to become receptive to biblical teachings, in a guide that provides practical tools for recruiting and educating new Christians. Original.

Publishers Description
How do people come to Jesus in today's postmodern culture? Not by a mechanical, linear process of cookie cutter conversions. Nor by a nebulous spiritual wandering that never culminates in decision and commitment. Over the last decade, Don Everts and Doug Schaupp have listened to the stories of two thousand postmodern people who have come to follow Jesus. While their stories are diverse and varied, certain common themes emerge. Postmodern evangelism is a mysterious and organic process that nevertheless goes through discernible phases, as people cross thresholds from distrust to trust, from complacency to curiosity and from meandering to seeking. Everts and Schaupp describe the factors that influence how people shift in their perspectives and become open to the Gospel. They provide practical tools to help people enter the kingdom, as well as guidelines for how new believers can live out their Christian faith.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
OK  Feb 6, 2010
Story flows between speaker's experiences, and reinforces the transition from casual to curious to committed.
Didn't live up to it's cover  Aug 24, 2009
This book looked good, from reading the cover, the back, and the introduction but it did not live up to the packaging. I was expecting actual stories from some of these hoards of people the authors mentioned instead of snippets and accounts retold by the authors. The writing was inconsistent, possibly because it was co-authored, and it was annoying to have the authors continually telling us who was writing (Don). I did find some interesting and useful content here and there, especially in the last third of the book, but for the most part I found it to be too basic and sometimes boring.
A Must Read  Apr 21, 2009
There are only a few books that I make my leaders read, this is one of them. I think it is the best book on the disgusting word of evangelism. Many of me and my friends have such issues with evangelism because of our post-modern viewpoints and I Once Was Lost gave me a framework for helping my friends without making me sick to my stomach because of it's lack of relational intelligence and individual respect. Definitely worth reading.
I once was lost  Feb 12, 2009
I haven't finished reading this book yet but so far it seems to lay out and organize some pretty good ideas. The ideas themselves aren't too far out but it's so good to have them organized in my head. Thank you for sending me a book in such good condition!
Exactely what I hoped for out of this book  Jan 12, 2009
This was an extremely practical read...very dense in the sense that it stuck to it's objectives without a lot of fluff. I highly recommend it to someone who wants to thoughtfully reach out to people in their lives.
