Item Description...
Overview
If you are a couple, you've most likely had an argument. Big or small, it can ruin your day and, even worse, your relationship. Dr. Sharon Morris May says, "It's not how similar you are or even your level of conflict that determines your marital success but how you deal with your emotions, vulnerabilities, and dragons when you argue."

Dr. Sharon views conflict through the lens of the attachment theory, helping us understand: why we argue, how we argue, and how to unravel our arguments. She helps us identify what's really going on in our brains and body when we argue, the cycles we get stuck in, the emotions fueling the cycles, and then helps us to argue in more considerate and connecting ways. She also offers six practical principles that help turn arguments into conversations:

Establish a Safe Haven

Comfort Dragons

Get Inside Emotions

Learn How to Complain

Learn How to Apologize

Bookend it with Good Times

Learning how to argue so your spouse will listen will change your marriage and change your life!

Reviews - What do our customers think?
How to Stop Fighting and Start Winning in Love  Nov 2, 2008
This book should have the title I have given this review, because that is exactly what it does. The author teaches us that reason we fight in the first place is because we still love each other and are trying to tell the other one, "I want more of you."

We have been teaching this class to other couples at our church, and the results have been astounding. It is amazing to see how couples of all ages can change almost overnight, once they know that it is "love" and not hate that is causing the arguments.

This book should be required reading for every couple, before they marry because it would save years of misunderstanding and strife.

Recommend for all couples to read  May 1, 2008
Brilliantly applied EFT research on marital conflict and reconciliation. As a couples therapist, I highly recommend every couple read and apply these 6 principles of communication and conflict resolution to their marriage.

A marriage saver  Jan 8, 2008
This book was extremely helpful in allowing my spouse and I to look internally and know that a lot of issues are due to past experiences and are not actually about what is happening here and now. I learned it is not about changing your spouse, it's about understanding yourself.

Extremely Helpful for Couples  Nov 9, 2007
I am a psychologist and marriage therapist and I wish everyone who is in an intimate relatiionship would read this book. Dr. May has an excellent grasp of how to help couples get unstuck and create a secure attachment. She has an expert knowledge of Emotionally Focused Marital Therapy (EFT) and can apply it in easy to understand ways. Congratulations Dr. May! Job well done.

How to Argue with Your Spouse  Oct 21, 2007
I think the book has some good suggestions and ideas for self awareness. The advice in some cases isn't overly profound, but there are some good strategies included to help keep your emotions and tempers in check. I think overall, the advice is useful. I personally am a spiritual but not a religious person and I find the scripture quotes and references to God a little bit of a turn off and unnecessary. I respect the author's own faith but feel that the book would appeal more universally without the emphasis on religion.
