Rhyming text recounts the Old Testament story of how Noah saved his family, along with two of every living creature, when God destroyed the world with a great flood.

Publishers Description

Children are often afraid to try something new. This story will show them how they can trust God to help them do what they need to do-just like He did Noah.

How Noah Knew What to Do shows how, even though Noah wasn't a veterinarian or even a ship builder, he listened to God and trusted Him to help him build the ark and fill it with animals. Karen Ann Moore's delightful rhyming text along with Pete Kersten's whimsical illustrations make this a fun way for children to learn they can rely on God in every situation, even when they're doing something they've never done before. Kids will see that obeying God can mean saying "yes" even when the obstacles seem hard to overcome. A gel-pack water-waves novelty that's built into the front cover makes for lots of giggles.

A Children's Delight  Nov 25, 2009
How Noah Knew What To Do is a wonderfully written children's book by Karen Moore with bright vivid colorful illustrations by Pete Kerston. It is the story of Noah, which is easily understandable, as well as sensible biblical life lesson geared for toddlers and younger children. The story is written in rhyme which my grandson absolutely loved, it is also an easy ready. This children's book can be enjoyed by the entire family, or may be enjoyed from the younger child that is reading on their own. Between the rhyming of words and the beautiful illustrations your child will be delighted with this one.
Awkward Reading  Aug 27, 2009
I really did not want to review this book. As a Christian, I thought it would be a great kids book like the ones I grew up with: a Biblical story used to teach some life lessons in a fun way. I have a four year old nephew that likes me to read to him, so it seemed like a great opportunity. On opening the book, I found cute illustrations. They are simple and created on a computer to mimic the classic kid's literature style. So far, so good.

However, reading it was awkward. It was not the Biblical story of Noah, but a reinvented Noah story to teach kids a nice lesson about trusting God. Admittedly, the original story of Noah is pretty harsh (killing off most of the planet's population and all), but creating a false story in its place is just not something I am willing to do. As this book seems squarely targeted at Christians, or at least anyone who believes in the Old Testament, I think it is fair to significantly rank the book down for this reason. My nephew did later see the book and asked me to read it to him. I instead told him the Bible story, using the illustrations as I went. He loved hearing it that way, so that is one potential use for this book.

Taking this book for what it is, without any considerations for the Biblical accuracy, I would rank it 3 stars. The rhyming style is good for a child's book, but the content is not particularly creative or charming. I don't mean to be overly negative, however, as I can see some kids enjoying it. It is just average. The gel insert on the front also gives a tactile draw to kids that might be picking out a book from a library.
Story time with a simple life lesson combined. Nicely done!  Jul 30, 2009
How Noah Knew What To Do is a wonderfully written children's book by Karen Moore with enjoyable illustrations by Pete Kerston. It's not just a simplified retelling of the story of Noah, but also a light-hearted and sensible biblical life lesson geared for very young children. The story is written in rhyme that's easy to ready out loud. Since it's written with easy words, young readers (ones a bit more advance than early readers) can enjoy this book by themselves if they wanted to.

Some of the thought provoking points that the author brings up that I appreciate:

- Noah was a farmer who produced fruit, not a boat builder or an animal caretaker, yet he was entrusted to build the ark.
- He had doubts even when building the boat.
- He asked God to be his friend as a source of encouragement during his project.
- How God will take care of Noah, his family, and the animals during their ordeal in the boat.

The last page of the book contains simple life-application lessons and exercises that can be done by children with their parents.

The colorful illustrations are wonderful. I love how all the animals are drawn. They become an intricate part of the whole story visually. Lastly, the cover of the book has a thin silly blue-squishy gel insert that's fun to press and play with. It's made to look like water under the ark. Not exactly a toy, but fun to run your fingers in.

Overall, How Noah Knew What To Do is and enjoyable child's book and a good resource for Christian parents to combine story time with easy simple biblical life lessons. My 6YO has enjoyed it and so have I.

"How Noah Knew What To Do" is a great Bible-based toddler to pre-school book on the classic Noah and the ark Bible story with extras, such as a blue flowing ocean to touch and feel. This book is great for 6 months to 6 years old. My granddaughter LOVES this book!
