Overview
Stories from a Place That Feels Like Home Master storyteller Philip Gulley envelops readers in an almost forgotten world of plainspoken and honest small-town values, evoking a simpler time when people knew each other by name, folks looked out for their neighbors, and people were willing to do what was right-no matter the cost. When Philip Gulley began writing newsletter essays for the twelve members of his Quaker meeting in Indiana, he had no idea one of them would find its way to radio commentator Paul Harvey Jr. and be read on the air to 24 million people. Fourteen books later, with more than a million books in print, Gulley still entertains as well as inspires from his small-town front porch.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Excellent reading Hometown Tales  May 12, 2008
If you seek humorous but wholesome reading, something to spend a few minutes doing when you're ready to konk out at night or while waiting for an appointment, Philip Gulley provides it and more in this selection. I love everything he's ever done, but this one is especially good because it provides personal glimpses of him. My only regret about this book is that I shared it with a friend and need to order another one.

Fruit of the spirit  Dec 6, 2007
In this book, Philip Gulley continues with the humorous stories he began in "Front Porch Tales". Gulley serves as the pastor of a small group of Quakers in Indiana, and in his spare time he spins tales about his past, about people he has known and about his observations of both. He admits that he might exaggerate his stories a little, but that just adds to their charm. His stories are laced with gentle wit and genuine caring for the people with whom he comes in contact. They are grouped under the fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, etc.) and are charming examples of these virtues as seen through the actions of small-town folks.

Hometown Tales: Recollections of Kindness, Peace and Joy  Sep 24, 2005
Bought this as a gift for my Mother who is in a nursing home, looked for light, up lifting reading for her and WOW did I find it in this author, bought two more of his books and am thrilled with the poignant and sometimes humorous stories. Would recommend again.

No Bible Knowledge- Warm, Honest Stories  Apr 17, 2005
Poor Phil is a Bible illiterate, but at least he's honest about it. These are great books filled with little stories of life, love and laughter. Phil is a man that knows his faults and limitations and doesn't hide them. These are honest stories if nothing else and revealing of the author's heart.

Lovely, gentle read  May 25, 2004
In a time of world confusion and fear, Gulley's book provides a wonderful oasis by reminding us of the things we hold dear. It reminds me of Katherine Valentine's Dorsetville novels. Filled with hope and faith, I plan to give several out as gifts.
