What is wrong with you people?!  Feb 24, 2006
This cd is amazing and worth every penny. This IS the best further seems forever cd to date. The other singers were so whiny and i couldn't stand listenig to either of the other cd's. This vocalist has such a mesmerizing voice. If you like emotional music without the emoness and some of the most indvidual guitar riffs to date then pick up this cd. if you like cliche emo then by all means get one of the other two.
...well it was a nice effort.  Feb 19, 2006
I've been a big fan of FSF since Chris. On their sophmore album I was blown away by the amazing three part guitar riffs and the unforgettable lyrics. It even drove me to see them live. Then this album came out,....

What the crap? No doubt, this isn't their finest work to say the least. I mean, it's not so bad that I'd recommend it as skeet for trap shooting, however, if you are a Die-Hard FSF fan then this album is for you (if for nothing else to complete your FSF library). For someone who may have only one of their firt two albums, purchase the other of the first two which you do not have and borrow this one. If you don't own any of their albums, steer clear of this one alltogether - It may turn you off to the band. If you only buy one of FSF's albums, go with "How To Start A Fire" - one of the best emo albums to date.

A feeble attempt  Feb 9, 2006
I have bought every Further CD and seen a show with all 3 different singers.

Further Seems Forever is an amaizing band, but that speaks simply for the musicianship. And out of the 3 albums and singers they have had i cant help but notice this to be the weakest LP yet.

With Chris on the Moon is Down i felt the album to be solid yet still with the EMO vibe. And this was further established through Dashboard

Though with Jason on How to start a fire i belive the band really found its style and voice. Amaizing lyrics that slapped you in the face.

This album is soft however and i believe Further will put out another soft album and eventually be no more.

They were destined for greatness, buf for reasons unknown couldnt keep the right front man in the band.
I had such high expectations...  Feb 3, 2006
I'll start by saying that this is the only FSF album that I own, so I have nothing to compare it to. The high expectations came from the few songs that I had previously heard off this album; unfortunately, these seem to be the only 2 standout tracks on the CD. "Like Someone You Know" and "Light Up Ahead" are absolutely beautiful, moving, eloquent songs that made me really excited to hear the rest of the album. However, basically the rest of the CD sounds very generic. I find myself unable to distinguish among the other 8 tracks, even bored at times. However, because those 2 songs are so outstanding, I don't feel like I quite WASTED my money. And, yes, I still cried myself to sleep (almost) when they announced they were breaking up.
Solid effort  Dec 29, 2005
First off I should say that this is my first FSF record, so I'm not going to judge it by the past two vocalists or anything like that. I think Jon Bunch holds his own, personally, and in places he truly shines.

The sound:

Hide Nothing is an album that is very unique as a record; the only things that hold it down is that it doesn't retain a uniqueness on a song to song basis, and is over too soon. After awhile you start to feel like you're listening to a never ending song. The fortunate thing is that it's a really good song! Jon Bunch's vocals are amazing in places, boring in others... the guitar work is good, but sometimes it blends in a little to much with the rest of the music. The drumming is full of off-beats and you can tell the drummer likes his double-bass pedal. The bass is good in parts, but isn't impressive. For the most part each song features long choruses; to me it felt like nearly every element of each song sounded like a chorus. It's pretty cool, but they do it on nearly every track. Gives it a very epic feel.

The Production:

The production quality seems to me to be extremely inconsistent. On some songs they seem marginally under-produced (the instruments blend together a little too much at times). But on most tracks they're over-done (the end of some songs makes them sound like they're about to totally rock out, but they always get cut off)... also, tracks five and six are essentially one song cut in half. They would make a great song as a whole, but it feels weird for them to be cut apart like that. Evidently Tooth and Nail evoked its 10 song minimum for LP's.

The Songs:

1. Light Up Ahead 9/10-the first song, not quite one a favorite yet for me. Long chorus, the guitars kind of get drowned out.

2. Hide Nothing 10/10-very similar to the first song, but I love the chorus.

3. Already Gone 6/10-while I like the atmosphere, Bunch's endless repetition of "already gone, aren't you?" gets a bit redundant. The rest of the band does the same thing. Sounds like filler.

4. Someone You Know 10/10-my personal favorite. A very multi-layered track that best shows off Bunch's vocals.

5. Make it a Part 10/10-showcases the most emotion of any track on the disc. It's a very epic rocker where every member of the band shines. The only downside is it's cut off at about 2:40.

6. All Rise 10/10-essentially the ending to the above song, it features the same chorus and same emotion. It also cuts off at about 3:00, and I as I already mentioned I wish that they'd left the two together.

7. Call on the Life 6/10-I thought this was kind of a mishmash of what has already been heard.

8. Lead the Way 9/10-not particularly groundbreaking, but the bridge is awesome.

9. Bleed 9/10-another one of the best songs, the hammering stutter guitar riff at the start is awesome. I just wished they would've used more of it.

10. For All We Know 8/10-a little uncharacteristic of the rest of the album, it doesn't feature the same epic feeling. However, it does feature the odd-eerie feel to it that most of the album has, except with acoustic guitar and piano. It does make you wish they'd used piano a little more.

With 87/100 for my personal rating, I think that this album is a very solid release that if the band can retain Bunch for another album (contrary to their past) that they can build on for an even better effort next time. I'd call it epic alt rock but that's just my opinion. The epic feeling and long choruses along with the building feeling that most of their songs possesses really sets them aside from the rest of the crowd, and makes it hard to pin them down to any one genre. One does wish they'd made it a bit longer, as it clocks out at just under 30 minutes. This will probably be one of those "mood" CD's for me; don't hesitate to give it a chance if you like rock with an odd twist.

**This CD has really grown on me the longer I've had it, so I raised the scores. Wonderful music. :-)
