Item Description...
This book is the first book in the new academic book series, Hermit Kingdom Studies in Christianity and Judaism, which seeks to encourage advancement of knowledge in the area of Hebrew language studies, Jewish historical studies, and Early Christianity / New Testament studies. The academic series particularly encourages the use of interdisciplinary approaches and creative thinking. HEBREW, JEWISH, AND EARLY CHRISTIAN STUDIES: ACADEMIC ESSAYS by Heerak Christian Kim contains 6 academic papers. The academic papers represent fruits of academic research conducted in a period of 10 years in three countries in three continents: Israel, United States, and United Kingdom. The research was conducted under the auspices of some of the world most prestigious fellowships, such as the Lady Davis Fellowship and the Raoul Wallenberg Scholarship. Heerak Christian Kim researched with some of the world's greatest minds - at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Cambridge University, and America's Ivy League universities. Some of the papers in the collection were delivered before an academic audience in important academic conferences (Society of Biblical Literature, British New Testament Conference, and American Schools of Oriental Research) and represent cutting-edge research in the respective field. The essays show erudition. But more importantly, some of the creative ideas contained in the book represent potentially a strong force of change in methodology and academic consensus in the area of Hebrew, Jewish, and Early Christian studies. This book is aimed at specialists in the field and can be used as a text book for college courses in the area of Hebrew, Jewish, and Early Christian studies. This book would be beneficial and helpful for clergy and informed laity who want a more serious study of the Bible, Christianity, and Judaism.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
Made Me Proud!  May 16, 2006
As an Asian, I was very proud to read this book. You know Asian scholarship on religion has come of age when someone like Professor Kim writes a book of this magnitude. He plays the academic theories that are in vogue like a fiddle from Dixieland. You will know what I mean when you read his book. It's impressive in the way it hits at the core of the theories.
Calling Jesus "a Jew" is Historically Inaccurate  May 11, 2006
Calling Jesus of Nazareth a Jew is historically inaccurate. In the ancient world, one's "national identity" ("ethnic identity") was bound together with one's religious identity. Jesus of Nazareth called for the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple and offended Jewish religious leaders and political leaders (Pharisees, Sadducees, Herodians). The Jewish Supreme Courth (The Sanhedrin) issued a Death Penalty against Jesus of Nazareth because he was seen as the Enemy of the State by attacking Jewish god by calling Himself God ("made Himself equal to God the Father" Gospel of John). There is great historical misunderstanding among Christians today even those who say they are Bible-believing and historical. This book is a very imprtant book to help those in error understand the historical issues involved. After reading this book, no historically honest person will call Jesus of Nazareth "a Jew."
Creative Book  Apr 3, 2006
I read this book after reading his book on Nuzi, and I am very glad tht I did. He made me rethink many of the presuppositions that I held about the ancient world, academia, scholarship, Jews, and society. What I find special with Heerak Christian Kim is to challenge accepted notions and compel the reader to rethink through the premises and assumptions based on historical data.
best book on ancient Judaism and Christianity  Jan 9, 2006
This is a very impressive book on ancient Judaism and early Christianity. This book made me consider issues that I have never considered before. Some of the questions raised (and answered through historical documentation) openned the door to enlightenment that I had not envisioned before.
Jewish Hatred Against Mr. Kim Unjustified  Sep 13, 2005
Jewish scholars and academics seems to hate Mr. Kim for some reason. He does solid research and work but his work disagrees with many Jewish scholars' Zionist interpretation of history and the Bible. It should not be surprising given the fact that Jews killed Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity. Don't listen to many personal attacks on Mr. Kim. This book is worth reading and thinking about.
