Overview
Confession, Penance, Reconciliation. The ancient Sacrament of Penance is called many names but has one purpose-the forgiveness of sins. Many Catholics and other Christians are at best uncertain as to the need for confession, and many are anxious at the idea of sharing their sins with a priest. In this much-needed book, Fr. Mitch Pacwa and Sean Brown put all the confusion and anxiety to rest by answering the most common questions and objections to this indispensable sacrament. As humans, we have an innate desire to be at peace. Sin destroys this peace, leaving the soul in a weak and deprived state. In Go In Peace, the authors demonstrate that, through the power of confession, one is freed from the burden of sin and brought to peace with God and himself. You will Learn: The biblical basis of confession Why Christ gave the Church the power to forgive sins Why this sacrament is required by the Church What elements are necessary for a good confession Why some sins require confession for forgiveness The psychological benefits of confession The spiritual benefits of confession. ...and much more!

Lots for the head, but not enough for the heart  Mar 11, 2008
This is a highly readable, concise q & a about confession. On the positive side, the authors are very straightforward and don't shy away from giving direct answers to ticklish or complicated questions, such as, "What happens if you intentionally omit a particular sin in making a confession?" All the answers make sense, are easy to follow, and are backed by Scriptural evidence. The authors also cover interesting topics related to confession, such as indulgences, a concept I really had trouble understanding before reading this book.

That said, I was a little surprised and disappointed by the scholarly, unemotional tone of the writing. I saw Fr. Pacwa and Sean Brown discuss their book on EWTN, and you could hardly imagine two more sensitive, personable, and passionate individuals. But not much of their sensitivity, personality, or passion come across in the book. Considering the book is presumably aimed at Catholics who have fallen away from the sacrament or have had bad experiences with confession, using a warmer tone, and perhaps some witness stories, might have been a more inspiring approach.

To sum up, if you're looking for facts and not necessarily inspiration, this book is fantastic. If you're looking for more, keep looking!

Good book  Dec 11, 2007
I found this book to very helpful in explaining the sacrament of Reconciliation. It is well written and easy to understand. Recommend it for any family, and a good one to have and read with your children too.

Confession made easy  Jun 8, 2007
What a wonderful explanation of all facets of the Sacrament of Reconciliation Father Pacwa has given us in this little gem. A very short read it includes everything you want to know about the sacrament and some things that perhaps you hadn't thought of for awhile in you Catholic experience. He talks about indulgences, the seal of confession, pugatory, and includes an examination of conscience and a very good glossary of terms. There is also a portion on actually how to celebrate the sacrament for those who may have been away from the sacrament for awhile. The main part of the book is set up as a series of questions that are quick takes that are easy to read. A good reference for any one who prepares parents and children for the sacrament of reconciliation or anyone who teaches in the RCIA program.
