Item Description...
A long-awaited revised edition of a highly acclaimed textbook on the history of Christian missions by one of the most respected missiologists of our day.

Publishers Description
This is history at its best. From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya is readable, informative, gripping, and above all honest. From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya helps readers understand the life and role of a missionary through real life examples of missionaries throughout history. We see these men and women as fallible and human in their failures as well as their successes. These great leaders of missions are presented as real people, and not super-saints. This second edition covers all 2,000 years of mission history with a special emphasis on the modern era, including chapters focused on the Muslim world, Third World missions, and a comparison of missions in Korea and Japan. It also contains both a general and an illustration index where readers can easily locate particular missionaries, stories, or incidents. New design graphics, photographs, and maps help make this a compelling book. From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya is as informative and intriguing as it is inspiring---an invaluable resource for missionaries, mission agencies, students, and all who are concerned about the spreading of the gospel throughout the world."

Reviews - What do our customers think?
A great overview of world missions history  Mar 29, 2007
I am not a history reader but choice, but this book makes it easy to track the development of the major missional keys to the advance of the gospel from Jesus to now.
A good overview of missions past and present  Jan 9, 2007
This is an excellent book to portray where missions began and where it is going. It is a book that my husband uses in the college classroom and is also a book that we used for devotions in our home for our older children. The long term commitment of missionaries of past eras has spoken loud and clear to us that today's method of "doing missions" has drastically changed, at times for the better and at times not so. All laymen should read this book to see what obstacles those of the past overcame. We have the same God and similar or even greater challenges in missions today but with the promise that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world!
great history of the Church  Nov 5, 2006
One of the best overviews of the growth of the Church from the beginning.
A must read for Global-minded Believers  Oct 25, 2006
I have read, reread, and taught from this book and it is an inspiring discourse on how God uses ordinary men and women to advance the gospel. I find it very interesting to see the progression of Christianity into the modern world and to imagine our own personal impact on our generation.

It is an easy read that can be read by chronological order, by geographic regions, or by individual missionaries. Every time I pick up the book I am inspired to live a radical life of love in this broken world.
Making a Mess of Missions  May 10, 2004
Ruth Tucker exhibits the spiritual discernment one expects in this late Laodicean Age of the church: lukewarm!
I was amazed to read what Tucker considered "missions", especially concerning the harlot church of Rome.

Better title would be: The Mess Man Makes With Religion

This book has very little to do with real Biblical missions.
