She drove her Caddy to the levy & the levy was Lime  Jun 11, 2006
Recently-moved, recently-dumped, pretty-much-always Agnostic Stockbroker Dude braves uncharted Christian Singles dating scene waters & discovers an unusual fish: Christian Missionary Chick 2 Ecuador.
Wish I had read these reviews first...  May 11, 2006
I picked up the book at a discount bookstore, but sure wish I had read these reviews first. The novel starts off pretty well, but loses steam as fast as it picks up its Christian-focused message. It's as if the author changed his plot mid-story from a summer fun fantasy story to a personal spiritual exploration. Perhaps the two could have blended better to create a more compelling story, but the end result lost me as a reader.
FUN IN THE SUN!!!  Mar 19, 2006
The cover with it's lime-sherbet green caddie and beachball is what caught my eye! The fun story, witty & smart, kept me page-turning! I think the review from the Dallas Morning News, sums it up: "Amazing. A novel with no illicit sex, bad words, racial slurs, or crime that is simultaneously serious, hilarious, and impossible to put down." I highly recommend this book!
Attention Christians! This book is for you ...  Jan 29, 2006
Somehow I find myself getting sucked into books that are purely evil. The premise of this book is excellent. It starts out with an agnostic 27-year-old male looking for chicks in church. I was quite amused and laughed out loud for several chapters and then it occurred to me that this book was about to take a turn ... or perhaps a better explanation -- this book was about to go where no book should ever go and plummet to the dark depths of predictability. I am horrified that it took the author half of the book to draw in the readers before breaking it to them that this was a purely holy-roller, christian book. Nothing on the cover or inside the jacket of the book said anything about this. I am not known to quit a book in the middle ... I usually find a way to finish it, but not with this book. I went on for a couple more chapters only to find that it got worse and worse.

If you are looking at making a conversion to christianity, this book might be for you. If you are a devout agnostic as myself, steer clear of this author.

Glad I picked it up on the discount table, but disappointed that I spent several hours of reading time only to find that this is the most worthless book known to man.

Sadly, this book could have gone good places if it were not for the second half of the book. Too bad.
Laughed 'til I cried...  Sep 8, 2005
What first drew me to this book was the funky cover. It looked like fun. It sat on my shelf for a good couple of months before I actually picked it up and read about the first 6 pages. I was so not into it. Yet as an avid reader & in fairness to RayB I put it back on my shelf and waited for a better day. When that day came I wondered why I hadn't gotten into it from word go! And then I knew... I've read so many serious books, been quite distracted with life, and it's written in first person which I tend not to pick up because some first person books tend to sound like 'letters home to Gran.'

This book is not a letter home but a private encounter with the reader on what happens when a cruisy stock trader (Jay) gets outside his square and visits a church in hope of meeting a girl (what better place to look?). And she's ellusive, hard to get and downright godly! When Jay and Allie and a group of friends end up at the beach, riding carts in the supermarket and singing to the lobsters, it made me think of the times that built my life, going on identical kinds of camps and beach trips. Sea green, drifting on cheap floats and writing in the sand will take on new meanings for you if you get involved in this book... These characters are very real because I grew up with their 'clones' who did even more crazy things but had the same relaxed nature and freedom within themselves. Chapter 5 is particularly special and at the risk of ruining it, next time there's a mosquito in your room, think twice before you reach for the flyspray, ok? And if someone else is doing the spraying, do what Jay-bird did and cover your head because you never know what you might find when the lights come on.

This book made me want to head south and check everything out and I bet I'd find it just as RayB wrote it. I thoroughly enjoyed the male perspective on life and dating, and Jay's responses to situations left me grinning from ear to ear. There are movies you watch and wish you'd heard about before going see it because they end up so dumb and passe. 'flabbergasted' is refreshing and lively, and anyone who does not enjoy it needs to become less serious and remember what it's like to be free... Ray crafts his work so effortlessly that suddenly you're sliding from the fun and games into what really matters most in life - Jesus, true freedom, and relationship (with Him) not religion. If you're not a believer, don't let this put you off because any objective mind will want to take a look at this. I have been giving this book as a gift... It's too amazing to keep to myself! I'm reading it again... and again...
