Reviews - What do our customers think?
Fired Up or Burned Out  May 12, 2010
The fact that at least 7 in 10 people are not engaged by their jobs is a serious concern for managers. Michael Stallard addresses that problem in this book. The book's goal is to enable managers to inspire their employees and establish a lasting connection with their jobs.

The book is divided into four sections. Part 1 establishes the need for a connected workforce. Part 2 gives steps to establish a connection in the workplace on a macro level. Part 3 goes micro and focuses on establishing a connection individually. Part 4 concludes with steps to practically apply these principles in your own workplace.

While at times the book sounds like hyped up hotel conference room jargon, it also contains plenty of useful tools. The main principle is sound, making this book a great read for any manager battling unmotivated employees.
A different kind of management book  Feb 23, 2010
The thing I appreciated about this book was its readablity. I've read other books on management and team building but none had the same level of passion as Fired Up or Burned Out, I couldn't put it down. I'm currently writing a college research paper about the importance of workplace connectedness and of all the books and journal articles I've read thus far this book was the clearest and most comprehensive. It quickly became evident, to me, that Michael Stallard wasn't just writing a book - he truly believes what he's writing.

The numerous examples of managers, CEOs, coaches, and others in leadership positions that have applied the principles taught in the book, made the concepts come alive for me and motivated me to strive for the same level of excellence.

The book is laid out in a logical well thought out manner, as described in many of the other reviews here. Part IV of the book, where there are stories from twenty great leaders to read and meditate on - one each day for twenty days - really helped me to internalize the ideas set forth in the book. It's so easy to read a good book, get temporarily fired up about it and then fall back into old habits of thinking after a while. By the time you are done with the twenty stories in twenty days the principles set forth in the book will have permeated your own thinking and set you on a course for real change.

If you buy this book you won't be disappointed and you'll never view the relationships in your workplace, church, club or other organization quite the same as before you read it.

This book needed to be written...  Jan 7, 2010
Mr. Stallard and his team have taken the "old" topic of genuine, intentional human connection to a new level. Now more than ever, with technology advances and life's daily challenges forcing "humanness" out, this book will help you, and your teams re-focus on the simple, powerful and effective attributes that only humans have to create life-long productive and meaningful relationships. If you want to be a better leader, manager, sales professional or friend, "connect" in a new and profound way with this book/idea.

The $14 Trillion Woman: Your Essential Guide to Engaging the Female Client
Light, but inspiring material  Jul 16, 2009
I don't usually go for business books like this, with relatively large font, short sentences, and wide margins. But first appearances can be deceiving. And "Fired Up or Burned Out" was a bit deeper and more thoughtful than I had anticipated.

What struck me most was the breadth of the biographical case subjects, which ranged from the contemporary celebrity CEOs one would expect to find in a book like this (Andy Grove, Jack Welch, Warren Buffett) to historical figures like Frederick the Great, Aztec king Montezuma and the Marquis de Lafayette. The vignettes are all a bit light and breezy, but enjoyable and occasionally insightful nevertheless.

Will this book leave an indelible impression, fundamentally changing the way you think and lead at work and in life? I doubt it. Will you discover a few inspiring anecdotes or insights that may help shape your professional development? Most likely.
an engaging read  Dec 18, 2008
This book makes quite an interesting read, and sometimes inspiring. Although packed with such details as what any serious-minded manager should already know, the authors present them in an engaging and inspiring way. It is the type of book that should be read anyone who happens to deal with people and who expects to get the best out of thyem.
Oberall, recommended.
