Reviews - What do our customers think?
Great Book  May 12, 2008
This a really good book for Fibromyalgia sufferers. I found a lot of information about how to handle the condition, where to get support, and info about Social Security claims, what to do and not to do. For me it was very helpful.
Great,first book!  Apr 17, 2008
After finding out I had FMS, I saw this book in the store and it was on sale. For being the first book I read about the condition, I think it was perfect. It gives you the main concepts and explanations without a bunch of mumbo jumbo you don't understand. And when you haven't quite accepted the condition as a permanent in your life, this book can help you feel as if everything will be okay and you're not alone.
fibromyalgia for dummies   Feb 14, 2008
this book is very helpful and informative. an excellent quick reference for fibromyalgia sufferers and others as well.
just ok  Nov 4, 2007
while the book is fairly thorough, I found all of the information in the book on various fibro websites. I would really like to have seen them expand on some of the treatments. It is probably pretty good for someome who knows someonme with fibro, but having just been diagnosed, it wasn't all that helpful.
Doesn't go far enough  Oct 21, 2007
This book and others like it do validate the illness- and that in itself is so needed by fibro patients.

I'd gotten to the point where even high doses of narcotics didn't help anymore and I don't think I'd even felt so lost. If I hadn't had fairly young children I don't think I would still be here.
I went from fatigue and odd pains & stiffness, to sever body wide pain within 7 months.

I was finally put on narcotics ( I'd been on sleep med for years and yes, sleep is important) and finally those drugs reached very high doses. They didn't work as well and my pain was worse.
A morphine implant was next.

I needed help, or I needed out. I found DR Paul StAmands site and my first thought was " so he's a dr, that doesn't cut much water with me". I later found that he also has fibro.
However, it was the many patients ( mostly people who were just following his protocol) who posted in the bulletin board that caught my attention.
This was the first board I'd seen where people were getting better.

My first attempt on guaifenesin was a wash. I didn't follow the directions. I didn't follow the dose, I didn't give it more than 2 months. I declared it a royal PITA.
Six months later I tried once again and this time I did it "by the book", even though there was no book at that time.

Nine months later my pain was reduced 90% and I have continued to get better. Fatigue is about 60% better. I am a medical professional and I have to understand something before I can recommend it or do it myself. It took a while even for me to read the literature AND understand it.

The only reason I give the book 2 stars is because I know it would not have done for me what guaifenesin did. I'd spent 10 years prior trying all that is suggested. For us, just knowing this is real is VERY important. This book delivers there.
The book may be more helpful for those who are still very mobile and fibromyalgia is more of an annoyance.

If you are to the point where nothing is helping, google DR Paul StAmand and Guaifenesin.
Get the book: What your doctor my not tell you about fibromyalgia.
No, don't get the book first, check the web site and read the info. It's all free.
Read the boards and see what others are doing and how they are doing it.

There is nothing to loose and you might find relief.
