Reviews - What do our customers think?
Three and a half stars - a basic introduction  Dec 21, 2008
Three and a half stars. This book has strengths and weaknesses. The strength of the book is in its diverse representation of feminist perspectives - from Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Pacific Asian and Latina perspectives. Readers will find a diverse, but not complete representations of feminist perspectives on the liberal side of feminism. There are no conservatives present in this book, which some may see as a weakness. It is basically also a "non-book", meaning it is a collection of academic papers and perspectives from a feminist conference, so there are a diversity of themes loosely speaking to one another. Readers will find this a good, but not definitive collection (as it is a short book, this would be hard to expect of it), and will likely find it informative. Some essays are clearly stronger than others - particularly on Islam. This I thought was a good, overview essay of "Islamic feminism." So if you make it a part of your library on feminism, make sure it is not the only book you have read on the subject.
