More About Lori Copeland

Lori Copeland Lori Copeland had a relatively late start in writing, breaking into publishing in 1982 when she was already forty years old. Faith  Sep 20, 2005
This was a book that will keep you on your toes both spiritually and emotionally. I recommend all the "Brides of the West" books

Wholesome romantic Western  Oct 5, 2004
Set in late 1800s Texas. After the death of her father, Faith answers an advert to become a mail order bride. She finds herself leaving Michigan and setting off for a long journey to small town Deliverance, Texas. There she is met by handsome wealthy rancher Nicholas Shepherd and his mother Liza.

Faith finds herself homesick after spending days alone with the cold and resentful future mother in law whilst her husband is out working. How Faith wishes she could be out helping Nicholas rather than being stuck at home with the non too communicative Liza doing women's work. But Faith prays nonetheless for Liza and Nicholas even though they are not very welcoming. For she believes that she has been sent to Deliverance by the Lord for a purpose.

Time and again Faith and Nicholas's wedding is postponed for unforeseen reasons. Faith starts to think that her purpose of coming to Deliverance wasn't to marry Nicholas but to teach a local blind boy how to read braille. Faith decides that she would like to set up a school for the blind but runs into trouble with Liza and is thrown out of the house whilst Nicholas is away selling cattle. When Nicholas returns he is angry with his mother but is too proud to bring back Faith. Will he put aside his proud nature and ask Faith to return to him? For Nicholas already misses Faith just as much as she misses him, even though they have spent little time together.

This was a sweet romance with a Christian message. There are no sex scenes as with most romantic novels but then this is a Christian romance and I think that this makes a nice change. Lust is not an element here but more about human relationships and relationships with God. Looking forward to reading the sequels.

Dynamic!  Dec 4, 2002
I have very little time to read and this book I read in 2 days! The way Lori Copeland wrote this book, you feel like you are standing right there in Deliverence, Texas looking at the whole scene. I felt captivated by the all of the characters. When they experienced joy or sorrow, I also felt it. While reading this book you will cry alot. Mostly because you are laughing so hard! "Faith" is a perfect title to this book. The main character, who is Faith, has the most innocent faith in God. Almost a child's faith. We all need to experience that. I have already recommended this book to friends and want everyone to know, this book is well worth your time to read it! You will walk away feeling refreshed and joyful! God Bless!

I am a sucker for 'pioneer' stories, but it aggravates me when the vernacular used in the book doesn't match how the people of that era would've actually spoken. The rhythem of the phrases, just the way they put things. If you want to know how people back then spoke and conversed with each other, just read any and all books by Janette Oke. This book, though, was worth the purchase all in all, but am still somewhat disappointed. Probably won't be buying anymore "Brides of the West' books.

A sweet, lighthearted mail order bride story  Mar 15, 2002
Faith 19, and her two younger sisters have decided to become mail order brides in order to relieve their aunt of any more expense on their behalf. Faith's adventure has her answering an ad to become the bride of wealthy Nicholas Shepherd in his mid thirties. He resides in Deliverance, TX with his mother. Liza.

Faith's unusual arrival in Deliverance is only the beginning of some rather bizarre occurances which prevent the wedding from taking place several times. Instead, Faith tests the patience of Liza her future mother in law by preferring outside, tomboy activities to domestication. Faith cannot figure out what makes this man and his mother tick, since they seem to have plenty of money but refuse to spend it, and although they are rich and well known, they still do not seem very happy with life.

As Faith becomes acquainted with the townspeople and church folks, she is especially fond of little five year old Adam, who is blind. His father, Dan, is a young widow with two other children. Since Faith is not married yet, she feels free to help Dan out with the children. This act of kindness causes her great distress from Liza and distrust and jealousy from Nicholas.

Although the book introduces many different families, it centers on Faith's adventures as she seeks to establish her worth while wondering if her marriage is ever going to take place. The one single obstacle she cannot overcome is the selfish, moody, controlling mother of her fiance. Liza is a widow who now refuses to relinquish her hold on her only child, Nicholas.

Nicholas puts his work and his cattle ranch above anything else, and postpones the wedding once more to prevent leaving a young bride home alone while he is out on a cattle drive. It is during his absence that Faith pursues her dream to start a school for the blind since she cares so deeply for little Adam and wants to teach him to read. Liza does NOT share this dream and in a very ugly scene, she issues an untimatum to Faith that leads to dire consequences. When Nicholas returns, he is shocked, sad and angry.

The end result is worth the read, and I am anxious to get to book two in this series, Brides of the West.
